Description

Starting between 5am and 8am, the day starts with collation and cooking of the pie fills to the agreed standard. The products have to be organoleptically tested and chilled correctly. Goods as they arrive have to checked and accepted into the business, properly stored and accounted for with any discrepancies dealt with.

Training will involve good manufacturing practice, food safety, including HACCP. Pasty mixes are produced to order on the day and delivered to the production line. KP duties in any food producer are of fundamental importance and training in how to clean, COSSH and the timely servicing of the production teams are key to the smooth running of production.

Beyond this there is the opportunity to work with the business owner on new products as well as improving existing products and processes. Training will be given on pastry manufacture, baking and well as other aspects of manufacturing and distribution to customers.

You will have to learn Health and Safety, Food Safety, forklift diving, First Aid and will become an integral part of the New Product Development process.

The intention is that the apprenticeship role will have a full appreciation of how the entire business works with multi skilling at the core.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Follow instruction from the senior cook
  • Prep and collate cooks
  • Keep all areas and equipment clean – notifying any damages
  • Accepting goods in
  • Cooking Pie fills and premixes
  • Blending pasty fills
  • KP duties Other duties above

As this is an Apprenticeship position, you will also attend Exeter College one day a week. Topics for the apprenticeship will include:

  • Personal development and performance

An interest and experience in cooking

Maths and English GCSE, grade C/4 (or equivalent).

If you do not meet the entry criteria, our team will support you to gain these skills alongside your apprenticeship.

Apprentices will be working towards achievement of the following:

  • IFA Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship
  • End Point Assessment
  • If required: Functional Skills (English, Maths)

This is a key team role and we need people who can fit into working within a team and have the confidence to speak out if things could be improved.

Chunk is growing and the product range is diversifying and becoming more complex. Staff are encouraged to be multi skilled.

Progression onto the Level 3 Senior Production Chef may also be considered for the right individual.
