Description of Opportunity
ETA provide a comprehensive range of services, products and skilled personnel to support marine projects worldwide. The key focus is on the needs of subsea energy and telecom system owners, suppliers and installers. Specialist skills are in demand for offshore wind and tidal power projects and in related fields including design and inspection of underwater systems and structures.
ETA have a vacancy starting autumn/winter 2021 for a CAD engineer/draughtsperson apprentice. Upon completion of the SETA block training period the candidate will be based at our head office in Romsey, Hampshire.
The post will involve:
CAD work under the supervision of the engineering team producing 3D models
Design and manufacturing drawings
Working closely with fabricators, suppliers and clients to produce an effective product
There will be opportunities to follow the build and commissioning of the end product
Assisting with others in the team to ensure the highest standards are achieved

Key attributes for people wishing to become engineers are:
Ability to pay attention to detail
Strong problem-solving skills
Mathematical and scientific aptitude
Conversant in the use of computers
5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*-C or 9-5 (or predicted) including English language, maths and a science subject
You will be required to pass SETA’s aptitude tests prior to an interview
Level 3 Engineering design and draughtsperson apprenticeship standardThis is an advanced apprenticeship and our Apprentice will spend part of their first-year training in basic mechanical engineering skills and will include principles of CAD drawing at SETA’s Training Centre in Millbrook Southampton. This is the start of the Standards requirements, which will continue in the workplace.You will return to site to begin your portfolio in preparation for your independent end point assessment, with day-release to SETA to study a BTEC Engineering Diploma in mechanical engineering.On the job training will be provided under the guidance of the ETA engineering team; in addition to CAD work this may include visits to fabricators, ships and work sites to assist with commissioning of ETA products and to gain technical appreciation of the marine and submarine cable sector.
