Description of Opportunity

You will be supporting the Site Manager to ensure both schools are safe and well maintained, and comply with all Health and Safety requirements.


The role will be based at Prestwood Infant School, but may be asked to work at Prestwood Junior School, reporting to the Site manager and Head teacher

Main Duties:

· Supporting school staff with the security of the building and its contents including patrolling, the opening and locking of gates/doors and ensuring that windows are locked and secure.

· Supporting the management of fire safety, undertaking weekly, termly tests and drills. Arranging annual checks on fire fighting equipment and completing the necessary paperwork.

· Supporting water hygiene management, undertaking weekly flushings and monthly temperature checks, and recording accordingly.

· To ensure contractors are aware of asbestos related issues and complete the asbestos log.

· Assist in the control, monitoring and safe storage (COSHH) of cleaning materials and supplies used, including maintaining the COSHH inventory and ensuring COSHH assessments are in place for all substances as required.

· Check all fire doors and corridors are clear (daily site inspections to ensure site is clear from hazards)

· Record fridge temperatures daily.

· Ensure outside areas are kept free of litter, sweeping leaves, emptying bins etc. to maintain a clean and tidy environment. In the event of snow and ice, clearance of the pavements to ensure swift opening of the school

· Undertake daily and seasonal maintenance of site equipment inside and out, including changing light bulbs, taps, clock batteries, door locks, woodwork and decorating, gutter clearing, drains and toilets to ensure a safe environment is maintained.

· Weekly checks of outdoor play equipment, with monthly recording.

· Check all contract cleaning has been carried out satisfactorily and do some cleaning alongside them, covering where necessary. Cleaning of the Headteacher and secretary’s office (secure areas).

· To clean up areas where children have been ill or injured.

· Check children’s and adult’s toilets during the day. Clean as necessary.

· Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials and supplies (hand towels, toilet roll, light bulb, salt, batteries etc.) to meet the schools needs.

· General porterage duties including moving of furniture and equipment, and setting up or meetings, under health safety guidance, i.e. manual handling regulations.

· To support the site manager in facilities management by completing the required periodic checks and associated record keeping.

· Be flexible and able to carry out any other jobs given to you by the site manager or Headteacher.

· Check communication book in staff room and office for any ad-hoc job requests. · Attend training as required. You will reporting to the Site Manager on a day to day basis.

Maths and English GCSE A*-C (9-4)
Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 Property Maintenance Standard.Learning will be done in the workplace and you will need to attend the College in Hemel Hempstead one day a week during term time. If you need to complete Functional Skills, you will be required to attend College once a week. Apprentices without maths or English at level 1 must achieve this level and take the test for level 2 maths and English before the end of the apprenticeship.

Studying one day a week at Hemel Hempstead, you need to be able to get there.
