Description of Opportunity

With full training and supervised by the Site Manager you will:

Maintain the security of the premises by opening and closing gates, repairing doors, latches and fences, to maintain a safe environment. Painting and Decorating Minor repairs to fixtures and fittings such as replacing locks Minor repairs to furniture, replacing door and window catches Minor improvements such as the erection of small shelves, display and notice boards Undertake daily and periodic cleaning of designated areas as directed to cover for any absence of the cleaner i.e. dusting, vacuuming, cleaning toilets, emptying bins, etc., to ensure a tidy environment is maintained. Ensure clear and safe pedestrian access to the school particularly in adverse weather conditions (e.g. snow clearing, gritting)

Ensure outside areas are kept free from litter, sweeping leaves, emptying bins, etc. to maintain a clean and tidy environment.

Undertake daily and seasonal maintenance of the site and equipment, inside and out, including changing light bulbs, taps, clock batteries, door locks, woodwork, decorating, clearing drains and toilets. Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials and supplies (light bulbs, batteries, salt, etc.), to meet the school’s needs.

Support the Site Manager in facilities management by completing required periodic checks and associated record keeping.

General porterage duties including movement of furniture and equipment within Health and Safety guidance, i.e. Manual Handling Regulations.

Undertake simple gardening maintenance jobs e.g. grass cutting, care of planted areas, pruning shrubs back or removing low level branches that pose a danger to children.

Be responsible for chair arrangements for all school functions.

Observe and, where possible assist, the Site Manager in more specialist/technical tasks.

The use of power tools/equipment may be required.

Undertake additional tasks, being able to work on their own initiative.

Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and other School policies. Undertake relevant Safeguarding training and be committed to the safeguarding of children and young people.

Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 Property Maintenance Standard.Learning will be done in the workplace and you will need to attend the College in Hemel Hempstead one day a week during term time. If you need to complete Functional Skills, you will be required to attend College once a week. Apprentices without maths or English at level 1 must achieve this level and take the test for level 2 maths and English before the end of the apprenticeship.

This post is fixed term for 24 months initially whilst the employee completes the qualification.

This can lead to potential careers in property and estates alongside the potential of full-time employment upon completion of this apprenticeship

The role will include day release to college 1 day per week to undertake the relevant Apprentice course. Access to personal transport and in possession of a full, current, driving licence is essential. Applicants should note that a criminal records check by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) will be necessary for the successful applicant. Some evening and weekend work may be required to support with external hire of the school. Candidate must be able to travel to Hemel Hempstead 1 day per week for college training. This job is a physically active role with extended periods of outside working throughout the year; candidates should be reasonably fit to carry out the lifting and carrying tasks that may be involved.
