Description of Opportunity

You will be trained in all aspects of commercial and domestic grounds maintenance. We are looking for an apprentice gardener’s assistant to help build business and fulfil customer’s gardening needs. You will train one day a week at Shipley College in Horticulture. Maintenance Duties will include:

  • Grass cutting,
  • strimming,
  • hedge trimming,
  • digging over,
  • weeding,
  • planting,
  • turfing,
  • clearing up,
  • gritting,
  • leaf clearing.
Gardening is a very manual job, so you should be prepared for physical labour. You should be ready to work in any weather; sunshine, rain or even snow.School leavers are welcome to apply. The employer will hold the position open for the right applicant.

Maths and English A-D, 3 + or equivalent.

Lower grades will be considered after sitting a Shipley College Skills assessment.

Using a range of quality Teaching, Learning and Assessment methods teach the Apprentice to gain their Level 1 English and maths if they have not already achieved it and the opportunity to study at Level 2Using a range of quality Teaching, Learning and Assessment methods guide the Apprentice to create an electronic portfolio containing evidence to cover the totality of the combined knowledge and competence to complete Level 2 in Horticulture Landscape Operative Standard and end point assessment

A permanent position is likely to be available on successful completion of the apprenticeship
37.5 Hours – Monday – Friday with one day release for college. Hours TBC. The employer is willing to offer a performance pay rise during the apprenticeship. Please discuss details at interview.
