Description

Precious Pets is a boarding kennels and cattery in the Forest of Dean, where we look after dogs and cats whilst the owners are away, we also do Doggy Day care and now have a fully equipped Grooming room. We have a small team of staff that work a variety of hours. We operate from 7.30-5.

The apprentice role will be a full time position and will allow the candidate to learn about all aspects of animal care, from cleaning kennels and catteries, to walking the dogs, grooming the cats and dogs, dispensing medication and also the welfare and wellbeing of all the pets that stay with us. We are also looking at expanding into Small Animal boarding. The role will include weekend work on a rota basis.

We are based down a valley in the Forest and not on any bus routes, so a car/transportation will be necessary.

This is a physically demanding job that requires team work as well as being able to work on your own.

General day to day duties such as:

  • Cleaning the kennels and catteries
  • Washing bedding/bowls etc
  • Walking the dogs in the Forest or playing with them in the paddock
  • Feeding and administering medication
  • Grooming

Some previous experience with animals is essential.
To be able to work towards Level 1 or higher Functional Skills maths and English
Full training through the Animal Care Apprenticeship supported by Haddon Training
Keen, hardworking, calm handling animals, reliable, punctual.
Full time position on completion of diploma.
Applicants must be willing to work at least one weekend day per week and bank holidays as part of their normal week. You may also be required to provide additional cover or change of hours at short notice.
