Description

BTRC is dedicated to improving and promoting the welfare of retired race horses through education, retraining and suitable rehoming in order to ensure that our thoroughbreds have a rewarding and valuable life after their racing careers have ended.

Established in 1991, BTRC is the UK’s first charity dedicated to ex-racehorse welfare, retraining, rehoming and protection for life. They are a centre of excellence, not only for the retraining of thoroughbreds, but also as an education centre to ensure best practice is maintained in this ever increasingly popular area of the equestrian pleasure industry. They aim to help as many horses as possible each year to be rehomed, these horses either come straight from the racing industry or pre-trained equestrian homes that for many reasons can no longer cope or care for the horse.

BTRC is looking for an Equine Groom Apprentice to assist the team to care for all the retired racehorses at the Centre and to ensure a high quality of welfare and stable management is maintained. Responsibilities to include usual yard duties; feeding, mucking out, grooming, turning out etc.

The ideal candidate must be hard working, reliable and enjoy working as part of a team yet have good initiative to work alone. Previous experience working with horses is preferable but not essential as all skills will be trained. This job may be of interest to someone wishing to learn more about rehabilitation and retraining of horses. A variety of equine based qualifications are available through the Haddon Training Apprenticeship Programme.
