The bar side of the job

Cleaning of the pub is
vitally important to ensure the image of the pub is upheld and it welcomes
customers in. The pub downstairs will need cleaning each day, which means
sweeping and mopping floors, hoovering of carpets and cleaning the toilets.
As well as downstairs needing to be cleaned, the rooms will also need to be
cleaned after every checkout. Rooms involves a bathroom clean (shower,
toilets, sink and floor), making up of the bed and then general cleaning in
the rooms themselves, such as dusting and hoovering.
Bar and restaurant work
involves lots of greeting and talking to customers and getting to know those
that come in everyday.
Daily tasks could include
serving drinks, taking food orders, running the food, providing customers
with what is required for their meal, taking payment for open bills and just
generally cleaning and keeping the pub looking its best.
Shifts will vary depending
on the day. Up to 5 days a week, with hours varying between 10am till maybe 5
or 6 and can be from 3pm till as late as 12am. Weekends are when the pub can
reach it’s busiest, so apprentices will need to work at different points
