Description of Opportunity

The role will be in all aspects of the front of house area. This involves bar work, restaurant work and cleaning of the pub and rooms.

The bar side of the job will involve welcoming customers, pouring drinks, taking orders, knowing the stock (draught and bottled beers and lagers, wines, soft drinks, spirits and snacks) working the till system; which means taking cash and card payments, and providing exceptional service to the customers. Restocking will be involved when working the bar, so it is important to understand stock rotation and how to get the most out of what we provide. With experience, more responsibilities will be involved, such as opening and closing the pub and cellar management.

The restaurant side of the job involves seating customers, providing the customers with knowledge of the menu, upselling of items, knowing the bar stock in order to take drinks orders before, during and after their meal, understanding allergies to provide an alternative option for their meal, as well as keeping the restaurant clean and tidy throughout service.

Cleaning of the pub is vitally important to ensure the image of the pub is upheld and it welcomes customers in. The pub downstairs will need cleaning each day, which means sweeping and mopping floors, hoovering of carpets and cleaning the toilets. As well as downstairs needing to be cleaned, the rooms will also need to be cleaned after every checkout. Rooms involves a bathroom clean (shower, toilets, sink and floor), making up of the bed and then general cleaning in the rooms themselves, such as dusting and hoovering.

Bar and restaurant work involves lots of greeting and talking to customers and getting to know those that come in everyday.

Daily tasks could include serving drinks, taking food orders, running the food, providing customers with what is required for their meal, taking payment for open bills and just generally cleaning and keeping the pub looking its best.

Shifts will vary depending on the day. Up to 5 days a week, with hours varying between 10am till maybe 5 or 6 and can be from 3pm till as late as 12am. Weekends are when the pub can reach it’s busiest, so apprentices will need to work at different points throughout the weekend.
