Description of Opportunity

Set in the heart of the Chilterns, we are currently expanding our chocolate and patisserie production, and are looking for a dedicated, reliable and enthusiastic apprentice to join our friendly team at this exciting time. Previous professional kitchen experience is desirable but not necessary. The successful applicant will join the team in producing artisan chocolates for our retail and wholesale outlets.


Your duties will include:

To support the team in producing patisserie and Rumsey’s artisan chocolates for our retail and wholesale outlets.

To learn about all aspects of Rumsey’s chocolate and patisserie production, working to consistently high standard, ensuring excellent hygiene standards and the smooth running of the kitchen.

To be willing to muck-in with all elements of running the kitchen, including washing up, polishing moulds, topping up chocolates in the shop, unpacking deliveries etc.

To assist in running chocolate-making workshops and courses for children and adults.

Must also be willing to help in the running of Chocolaterie at busy times

The job will primarily be based in our Thame Chocolaterie, though work in Wendover will be necessary on occasions.

WAGES - Start at £5 per hour but increase, dependent of age.

We are looking for someone passionate about food, and who is dedicated and reliable with excellent attention to detail. Previous professional kitchen experience is desirable but not necessary. Rather we are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic apprentice who is willing to muck-in and keen to learn.

No qualification requirements.

  • Production Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship
  • Functional Skills English Level 1 (if required)
  • Functional Skills Maths Level 1 (if required)

  • A love of cooking and baking.
  • Punctuality.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-motivated and with common sense and initiative.
  • High standard of personal hygiene and presentation (the theatre kitchens are on-show to the public).
  • Creative and artistic.
  • Ability to work weekends and very occasional evenings.
  • Direrable: Own transport.

Ongoing employment and further professional development as a chocolatier.
