Description

· To work along side one of our senior estimators to gain the necessary skills to carry out the following:

· Analysing plans, bills of quantities and other project documentation in order to estimate costs

· Researching, sourcing, negotiating and obtaining the best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors

· Analysing data that can affect costs (such as currency exchange rates and the company’s productivity rates)

· Assessing the financial, technical and operational risks of the project

· Visiting project sites to gather information

· Staying aware of the latest construction technologies

· Keeping up to date with the latest regulatory and legislative requirements

· Inputting into decisions over whether to bid for the project

· Working closely with key members of the project team (such as the bid manager) and liaising with clients and suppliers

· Keeping detailed records and writing reports.

· Good verbal and oral communication and interpersonal skills, as a junior estimator is required to possess excellent customer service skills and also liaise efficiently with clients, contractors, and management

· Adequate familiarity and proficiency with computer applications and electronic equipment that are used in construction, such as circuit boards, hardware, and software

· Basic knowledge of building and construction

· Well-developed organizational and self-management skills, which enables a junior estimator to maintain his or her composure in order to work effectively under pressure and also meet up with tight deadlines

Maths & English GCSE Grade 4-9 or C and above.

Due to requiring to get from site to site a driving licence and own transport will be required

Attend Exeter College on day release during term time only.
