Description of Opportunity

To assist in delivering a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-16 years, whilst ensuring that the nursery environment is safe for all children, staff and others. To develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their children’s learning and to be responsible for any tasks delegated by qualified staff/deputy manager/nursery manager. To also complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship to a high standard and within the permitted time scale.


Your daily duties will include but not be limited to:

Daily duties:

  • To ensure the children’s welfare and safety are your primary concern
  • To demonstrate a genuine care for children
  • To maintain high standards throughout the nursery
  • To support daily routines
  • To assist in providing a safe, caring and stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors at all times
  • To help ensure the nursery meets all legal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • To have an understanding of all SEN, dietary requirements and allergies within the nursery
  • To display children’s work, ensuring displays are labelled, neat and changed on a regular basis
  • To keep parent’s notice boards up to date
  • To attend regular staff meetings to ensure we maintain a professional, caring and consistent service
  • To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g daily attendance registers, number boards, accident forms, risk assessments, daily health and safety checks
  • To be flexible to meet the nursery’s needs
  • To acknowledge all children and parents when they enter the nursery, with a warm and friendly approach
  • To liaise with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about their child’s progress, development and daily routine
  • To always smile and work as part of a team, helping one another, because Together Everyone Achieves More
  • To actively promote Mawsley Day Nursery
  • To be at nursery 10 minutes before your contracted start time to allow yourself time to communicate with other staff members, set up appropriate activities and to ensure the room complies with all health and safety standards before allowing children in
  • To allow 10 minutes at the end of your contracted finish time to shut your room down to a standard set by management
  • Mainly to have fun at work!

Policies and procedures:

  • Read, understand and Implement all policies and procedures at all times
  • To ensure the positive management of all children’s behaviours following nursery policies and procedures
  • To ensure good practices are implemented regarding health, safety and hygiene following nursery policies and procedures
  • To be fully aware of the nursery’s Safeguarding policy and know what to do if a suspicion arises. To know who the Safeguarding Officer is
  • To be aware of the fire precautions and procedures, and know your specific role in case of an emergency
  • To support the Equal opportunities/inclusion policy at all times
  • To be aware of the Nursery SEN policy and its procedures

Planning:

  • To deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum that enables children to make individual progress, following the Mawsley Day Nursery Planning, observation and assessment policy
  • To ensure the rooms environment is providing opportunities which will allow the weekly planning to be put into place, adapting aspects if needed
  • To be aware of educational links each day and have an understanding of how to carry out the appropriate activities

Key Person:

  • To take responsibility for a small group of children as your ‘Key’ children, making sure observations are made regularly and narrative observations are recorded termly alongside termly progress reports, following the Mawsley day Nursery Planning, observation and assessment policy
  • Liaise with the child’s parent or carer on a regular basis

Learning Journals:

  • To observe children’s development using wow moments on a regular basis
  • To ensure termly narrative observations are in place for all key children
  • To ensure termly progress reports are compiled for all key children
  • All key children’s folders must be updated regularly (using evidence gained as well as professional judgment) to the nursery standard following the Observation, assessment and Planning policy

Training:

  • To attend any training deemed necessary to develop your career in Child Care and improve performance
  • To be willing to undertake level 2/3 early years training
  • To be able to organise your own time, in order to meet all paper work requirements and deadlines set by the training provider
  • For all paper work to be completed outside of nursery time
  • To be available to help or support other trainees and students

Human Resources:

  • Take part in any necessary training for the job role
  • To attend staff and training meetings if required
  • To be present at consultation evenings and information evenings
  • To ensure that all nursery policies are followed
  • To maintain Confidentiality at all times
  • To liaise with the Deputy and Manager on any matters arising
  • Develop positive relationships with all staff including outside agencies
  • Be a reliable member of the team, working co-operatively and with flexibility
  • To work flexible hours as requested by the manager
  • Project a friendly approach to our customers at all time
  • Be familiar with all emergency and security procedures of the nursery



Working hours are 4 days per week, 8am - 6pm

  • Basic understanding of child development
  • Recent experience of working within a nursery environment would be advantageous
  • Working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • Knowledge of implementing good quality learning opportunities
  • Basic IT and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication skills with children, parents and other staff members
  • Ability to write reports and keep clear and accurate records
  • Excellent organisational skills

Passes in GCSE English and Maths would be preferred.

The following qualifications would also be advantageous but not essential;

  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Safeguarding Training
