About the Mercer Operations Apprenticeship Programme:

  • 2-year programme starting in March 2022
  • Based in Bristol, Exeter, Liverpool, Manchester, Leatherhead, Orpington, Chichester or Edinburgh

On the programme, you'll be working towards the PMI Award in Pensions Essentials (APE) plus part of PMI Certificate in Pensions Calculations (CPC) Level 3 Workplace Pensions Apprenticeship. You'll have 20% of your work time dedicated to focus and develop the required skills, knowledge and behaviours to achieve the apprenticeship.

Roles are non-rotational and will vary dependent upon the business unit, however apprentice roles typically fall within:

  • Specialist Operations: Work as part of a team providing an accurate, reliable and high standard of data and de-risking solutions to Trustees, third parties and internal teams alike. You will report to the De-risking Manager.
  • Member Operations: Work as part of a team providing an accurate, reliable and high standard of pensions administration service to members, Trustees and Clients. You will report to the Administration Service Manager.

    What is a typical ‘Day in the Life’ of a Mercer Apprentice?

    • Ensuring that all procedures are followed when undertaking work for Members, Trustees and Clients across all aspects of data processing.
    • Ensuring errors, omissions and complaints are handled in accordance with agreed procedures and within appropriate timescales, through liaison with the Manager and Professional Champion.
    • Identifying any opportunities/ideas for change.
    • Following e-working protocol and keeping the team task list up to date with progress and movement on your assigned tasks.
    • Being accountable for your contribution to the performance of the service delivery of your team and reporting progress on a regular basis.
    • Being accountable for the standard and quality of own work.
    • Learning how to perform pensions calculations, data audits and data corrections, entering and reviewing pensions data, responding to data queries enquiries to the required standard using excel worksheets, and following process guidance material across a wide range of project tasks.
    • Undertaking assigned project tasks in line with timescales set out in the project plans or otherwise agreed with the client at the required level of quality.
    • Meeting the assigned individual chargeable hours target.
    • Supporting in the monthly/quarterly billing of the team’s clients
    • Shadowing more senior team members on project review meetings and project kick off calls.
    • Developing a flexible method of communication to support client reporting. Learns what is important to the client and how each task will contribute to the success of the wider project.
