Description
Wingham Wildlife Park is Kent’s fastest growing wildlife park, just outside the beautiful cathedral city of Canterbury, in Kent. As a family-owned park, we’re proud to house the largest number of animal species including tigers, flamingos, bats, or even the adorable red panda.
We are looking for a Primate Keeper apprentices where the key responsibilities will be the day-to-day husbandry of
animals on the section, observational note taking, assisting with preparing
diets, providing enrichment and assisting with animal training and maintaining exhibits and other areas. You should be confident to be able to, with training and support, conduct public talks and guest experiences.
Some of the carnivores that will be under your care will include the Lion and Tiger, Jaguar, lynx and Cheetah, Arctic Wolf and Raccoon dog plus many others!
This is a 24-month fixed term contract where you will receive statutory holiday, staff
discounts, in house training, plus access to an extensive training budget
covering external workshops and conferences.
Some animal related experience would be desirable but not essential - no other animal specific qualifications are needed.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in animal care of exotic species, conservation and a willingness to learn new skills. You must be happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be physically fit to meet the demands of the role.
Good verbal and written communication skills are essential and you must be willing to adapt to different situations and able to work under pressure. Excellent observation skills and to be self motivated.
Days of work: Working 5 out of 7 days per week on a rota based system
8am - 4:30pm or 9am - 5:30pm
