Description

Internal audit – get the career you want at RSM

Location - London

When you join our team, you’ll enjoy a powerful combination of on-the-job learning and structured training – not to mention an impressive client list to work with. You’ll discover a culture that nurtures individuality and an environment where everyone is supported to reach their potential. With us, you’ll always be moving forward.

What does our internal audit team do?

Today’s financial services organisations face many strategic, financial, regulatory and operational risks that can stop them from achieving their goals. We take a deep, objective look at a business to decide whether it has the right systems and control processes in place to manage potential threats.

A career in financial services internal audit gives you front-row seats to how financial services organisations operate. We visit clients throughout the year to carry out field work: we look at their existing controls and test their strategies. We then write an audit report to document our findings and provide the client with management actions to address any improvement areas that we have identified.

We help clients across the financial services industry, so you could be working with banks, insurance companies, wealth and asset managers, building societies and consumer finance firms, to name but a few sub-sectors of the financial services industry Our varied client list will give you a great foundation to build your business knowledge.

What can you expect?

RSM’s school leaver apprenticeship in financial services internal audit is infinitely varied, interesting and rewarding. No client is the same, so you’ll be constantly challenged. With our support, you’ll get the chance to grow professionally, with access to structured training and guidance from expert mentors.

A typical working week could include working on client sites for a day or two a week which will involve travel straight from home to your clients, which can be up to 1 hour 30 minutes away. On other days, depending on the needs of the business and our clients, you may be working with colleagues in your nearest RSM office, or you may be working alone (with on-line supervision) from home as appropriate.

When you join this team, you’ll work towards your professional qualifications by completing a 5-year apprenticeship programme. This consists of the Institute of Internal Auditors IAP (Internal Audit Practioner) for the first two years, followed by either:

· CIA qualification (Certified Internal Auditor) for the next 18 months, followed by the CMIIA qualification (Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors) for the remaining 18 months;

OR

· the Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA), with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), or the Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) or the Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI). These are three year courses, and will be dependent on your academic qualifications.

The qualification training we offer is fully supported with study leave and training costs are met by RSM. To successfully achieve your professional qualification you will however need to commit personal time in the evenings after work and at the weekend to study and ensure you are well prepared for the examinations.

What we look for

Internal auditors spend a lot of time working independently so we’re on the lookout for enthusiastic self-starters who are quick to learn and always up for a challenge. That said, you’ll always be fully supported during the audits – you’ll have a dedicated line manager and core team to learn from and be supported by. You’ll be working on a wide variety of projects, so it’s important that you’re adaptable and highly organised. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential as you’ll be communicating at all levels, often explaining complex information both in meetings and in written reports.

If that sounds like you, we know you’ll enjoy being part of our team.

Flexible working

At RSM we work hard to create an environment where our people can make a difference - to themselves, their career, their teams, and to the success of our firm and clients. We support all our people to work flexibly, to manage their family and other responsibilities alongside their work commitments; we believe this is key to achieving an inspiring and fulfilling working environment.
