Our Business

Our client base includes more than three-quarters of the world’s leading insurers across both life and property/casualty insurance.

The Role

***Please note that we do not accept multiple applications and you should select and apply to no more than one programme each year***

Level 4 Actuarial Technician Apprenticeship Programme

Start date: 2nd September 2024

Closing Date: 24th November 2023

Location: Manchester

A role in Insurance Consulting and Technology is stimulating, challenging, exciting and extremely rewarding.

We require associates who are technically and mathematically minded, with the ability to solve complex and challenging commercial problems using innovative and proportionate approaches. You’ll learn what we do for our clients as you build strong working relationships and develop valuable skills from day one.

You’ll be working within our Insurance Consulting and Technology team helping to provide advice to many of the world’s leading insurers. The Actuarial Technician is an exciting role where you will work as part of an actuarial modelling and reporting team, which will provide a supportive learning and development environment for you to build your actuarial knowledge alongside your apprenticeship studies.

You will be part of a small local apprentice team but also included in a wider growing group of apprentices in other offices and disciplines. Your manager and assigned mentor will be on hand at all times to fully guide you through your programme – making adjustments as necessary to ensure you achieve your full potential.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there will be an opportunity to join and progress within the Insurance Consulting and Technology team. You will continue to grow and develop new skills supported by our extensive in-house training resources and tailored programmes.

In this role, it is necessary to build a strong technical skillset but also the ability to communicate complex concepts to audiences from a variety of backgrounds. We deal with actuaries, accountants, auditors, underwriters, technologists, data scientists, insurance entrepreneurs, senior executives and other Board members. Each audience has different needs and knowledge and we need to tailor our communications to suit. We are looking for candidates who are excellent in their own fields and are able and driven to apply their knowledge and skillsets to work with clients to support them in delivering their strategy and objectives.

What will I be doing day to day?

Apprentices will tend to be involved in one large client project at any one time, joining an experienced team who will provide you with support and guidance. You will receive training and be exposed to technology from your first day, as it’s an increasingly essential skillset within the actuarial world.

You will be involved in regular project meetings which will help you to understand the business context and project objectives, and where your contribution fits in, as well as providing a space for you to report your progress.

You may also be involved in communicating with client stakeholders, working directly alongside clients or joining meetings/calls discussing progress or sharing deliverables.

A key difference at WTW is that we have our own set of Insurance Technology Solutions which are widely adopted within our client base. You will become familiar with these products and in developing new propositions or solutions based on these products. If you are interested in technology, there will be opportunities to collaborate with our Technology colleagues to develop our software products and combined consulting and technology solutions for our clients.
