Job DescriptionAbout us
National Grid is at the heart of the energy future, and our people are at the heart of National Grid. We’re 30,000 colleagues strong. In the UK, National Grid don’t generate or sell energy – we join the dots to get energy from A to B. From making a cup of tea in the morning, to keeping the lights on in hospitals, our electricity network puts power in the hands of people. Without it, the world as we know it would grind to a halt.
The world of energy is changing beyond recognition as we focus on building a cleaner, greener future. Working at National Grid, you won’t just be touching the lives of almost everyone in the UK – you’ll be shaping the way we use and consume energy for generations to come.
Our values and priciples
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of who we are and what we do. Our commitment to these values is unwavering and they are central to our mission. We encourage applications from all backgrounds, communities and industries and we are happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments that you require.About the role
Our Graduate Development Programmes are made up of three six-month placements (18 months). They begin with an initial position in Asset Operations, followed by a placement anywhere in National Grid, and then a third in our Electricity Transmission department.
As a graduate on our Project Development Engineer scheme, you’ll be helping maintain National Grid by designing substation equipment and investing in electrical transmission. You’ll be contributing to big, exciting projects with real-life applications. For example, you might be working on building a substation that will provide electricity for hundreds of thousands of people. Or perhaps on an under-the-sea interconnector that joins us to the European electricity grid.
If you want to make a similar impact in energy and sustainability, we’d be very interested in hearing from you!About you
You’re enthusiastic about engineering and are looking for an ethical company that is actively contributing to a greener energy future. You’re committed to developing yourself, always ready to ask questions of your colleagues in order to learn, and keen to do your own research and find out as much as you possibly can about your subject.
You’re willing to work hard and able to quickly pick things up. You can give and take feedback and contribute to your team in a meaningful way. You’re not just interested in the graduate programme, but in the job at the end of it. We’re going to be investing a lot in you, so we need you to do the same, and really make the most of the opportunity. What you'll need
You’ll have to be on target or have achieved at least a 2.2 in a STEM degree.
You’ll also ideally have a valid full UK Driving License.
This role is based in Warwick with flexible, hybrid working.
We care about your wellbeing and want you to get the best out of your working environment, so our future for office-based teams is hybrid. Hybrid working is a mix between home and office working.
