BMW Plant Hams Hall, Birmingham - Level 3 Calibration Technician - 4 Year Apprenticeship (August 2024)
BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines as well as V8 and V12 engines, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.
How do you know if 1 metre is actually 1 metre? How should we measure a metre to decide if it is indeed 1 meter? We know at Hams Hall. We know how to measure and everything we do measure is traceable back to a National Standards Laboratory. Accuracy of measurement and traceability of data is evident in everything we do.
We are looking for a committed and eager to learn individual to join our Metrology Services team. Part of our responsibilities are to manage the Test Equipment used within the BMW Plant Hams Hall. We validate the tools, equipment and facilities to ensure they are validating our state-of-the-art manufacturing processes correctly. You will operate equipment in our state-of-the-art Fine Measurement Room to measure and validate various gauges, tools and test equipment used in our machining and assembly processes.

What will you be doing?
-Ensuring calibration test equipment is operating effectively.
-Operating state of the art measurement facilities to measure our test equipment conforms to specification.
-Contributing ideas to improve our calibration methods and processes.
-Documenting calibration results using internal software.
-Liaising with Engineers and Specialists in both our Quality and Production teams. This will involve communicating when things are right.
-Reporting topics relating to the incorrect use of test equipment, and any other topics that could affect the high standards we set for our engine production.
-Calibrating test equipment that is used for product monitoring and conformity to the required standards, allowing accuracy and precision of physical calibrations to be consistently met.
