Description

BMW Plant Hams Hall, Birmingham - Level 3 Metrology Technician - 4 Year Apprenticeship (August 2024)

BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines as well as V8 and V12 engines, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Do you know the size of a strand of hair? We do and we can measure down to 1/350th of a strand of hair. Can you imagine measuring something you could not even see! At Plant Hams Hall we have the ability to measure objects to the nearest 1 thousandths of a millimetre (1 micron). That’s small.

We are looking for a committed and eager to learn individual to join our Quality team. You will be part of a team responsible for ensuring all engine/power unit components assembled within our Plant can be measured. We also measure components we machine here onsite, and this involves creating and maintaining efficient, effective and reliable measurement programs for our state-of-the-art inline gauging facilities. Programs that we also use within our own state of the art Fine Measurement Room.

You will be part of a team that completes measurement activities to ensure new products introduced into the Plant conform to precise quality-related specifications, this includes ensuring supplied parts are delivered in line with design and drawing specifications.

We measure to support our Plants operational excellence, so that BMW produces the best products for our customers.

Our Quality team is keen to teach our apprentices a range of skills needed to be successful, supporting you to ensure your apprenticeship experience is both engaging and valuable to your future.

What will you be doing?

Using state of the art measurement facilities to measure a range of components associated with engine and other power unit products.

Creating and amending measurement programmes used by our state-of-the-art facilities.

Contributing ideas to improve our measurement methods and processes.

Ensuring Metrology activities are planned, optimised, and carried out in an efficient manner.
