Objectives of the post To assist and support the Research Finance team in the provision of financial and performance information for regular management reporting, funder compliance and grant costing calculations by maintaining the integrity and accuracy of financial information held on the finance system (Agresso) and the staffing information for roles funded by research grants. Tasks 1.Management Information and Analysis

  • To assist in the production and distribution of the budget holder reporting in line with the month end timetable
  • Transactional processing to move costs and budgets across codes as directed by research accountants.
  • Prepare data for projects and other ad-hoc requirements, as required by Finance Business Partners or the Head of Research Finance
2.Grant tracking and planning

  • Prepare and post budget adjustments throughout the year on a timely basis
  • Prepare and post reconciliation journals and adjustments
  • Assist in the preparation of grant budget templates for new awards 3.Financial Processes and Controls
  • Ensure FMP forms for new staff and contract changes are processed and update the Human Resources/Payroll system with funding details
  • Help maintain an up-to-date, complete and accurate budget approval and reporting access rights record on Agresso (ASF)
  • Help to ensure that payroll control accounts are cleared for all research grant-funded posts each month
  • Prepare and post adjustments to the General Ledger, under the guidance of members of the Research Finance team
  • Maintenance of standing data in Agresso, including project codes and grant codes
  • Identify missing grant Masterfile and project information from regular system reports and assign tasks to the correct research team
  • Ensure that monthly interdepartmental recharges are received and are posted in line with the month end timetable
  • Help to monitor adherence to the journal approval process by the finance team through reconciliation and sample testing
  • Co-ordinate compilation of divisional spreadsheets, including major funder remittances, with input from the Research Finance Team 4.Business Relationships and Decision Support

Essential

  • High degree of computer literacy and able to learn new IT skills quickly
  • Strong excel skills
  • Good general level of education, including a high level of numeracy Desirable

  • Previous exposure to Agresso or a similar ERP finance system

ACCA is ideal if you’re looking to progress your career and become a chartered accountant, or work in an accountancy, audit or tax firm. ACCA consists of three levels; Applied Knowledge, Applied Skills, and Strategic Professional, and you’ll need to complete relevant work experience at some point before you can qualify.


ACCA qualification is made up of three levels:
  • Applied Knowledge helps you understand the role of accounting in the business environment, and develop the practical skills and techniques expected of an accountant working in business. You can complete Applied Knowledge in six to 12 months.
  • Applied Skills encourages you to develop a broad understanding of the role of accounting in business, and how to interpret financial information.
  • By studying Strategic Professional, you'll learn advanced techniques, skills, and the professional ethics required of an accountant or consultant operating at a senior level. Once you've successfully passed you can apply to be a full member of ACCA. Fully qualified ACCA members have abundant job prospects in a variety of industries and countries. In the final stage of ACCA, you'll be working as an assistant (qualified) supervisor or a financial analyst.

You will also be required to complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which will include a case study exam and project report.

As part of the apprenticeship you will complete innovative skills and behaviours that are essential to complement the vital technical training. They are designed to support learners in developing essential competencies and embedding their learning within the context of their organisation. Delivered with motivation and engagement at heart, learners can practice these essential competencies with industry peers in a realistic environment.

Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons or Live Online. An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate 20% of your time towards it.
