This is an exciting opportunity to become a valued member of the IT Services team in the School of Mathematics. The team consists of computing support and administration staff, a database developer, learning technologists, a digital content developer, and a science communicator. You will be delivering a wide range of IT services used by its staff, students and visitors whilst working towards your IT Support Apprenticeship at Level 6. You will work as an integral part of the team which is supportive, diverse and busy.

Responsibilities:





  • Responding to routine calls passed from the helpdesk, escalating to senior colleagues as necessary


  • Supporting Audio Visual and Teaching rooms


  • Finding and fixing routine technical problems


  • Installing software on computers


  • Preventative IT maintenance


  • Installing and configuring computers


  • Keeping our documentation up to date


  • Assisting new students who require IT equipment




Required skills:





  • National 5 or above in English and Maths


  • Good at listening and comfortable with communicating with new people


  • A methodical and logical approach to problem-solving


  • A working understanding of Windows PCs and IT packages


  • An awareness of the different types of computers and technologies


  • Ability to pass on information in a clear concise manner


  • Willingness to help others and develop new skills


  • Hard-working, conscientious, reliable and flexible


  • Polite, presentable, punctual and organised




Salary:



£21,900 per annum



Working hours:



Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm

Starting with insights into your current potential, they plan your growth in a programmatic way, close skills gaps with immersive training and ensure what you learn is applicable to what you do. They talk you through the specifics on the qualifications you gain and how they align in particular to your day to day role.



On completion, as well as the valuable work experience you have gained, you get a nationally recognised qualification at SCQF Level 6.
