We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Protection and Information Governance Practitioner Apprentice to join Co-op Academies Trust. Your role will be to support the Trust in fulfilling its responsibilities to comply with the Data Protection Act, UK GDPR, the Freedom of Information Act and with Trust policy and expectation.

Description

Main Duties:

  • To respond to data protection queries from schools and central team colleagues, in consultation with the Data Protection Officer; communicating established processes and procedures.
  • To ensure all central staff have undertaken appropriate data protection training in a timely way and to maintain such records.
  • To provide support to colleagues in responding to requests for information including subject access requests, and requests made under the Freedom of Information Act, ensuring these are complied with within statutory timescales and that records are maintained.
  • To provide support with redacting images and documents as required.
  • To assist the Data Protection Officer to respond to data breaches in a timely way, supporting investigations, and liaising with colleagues and third parties to ensure that appropriate actions/learnings are identified and followed up, and records are maintained.
  • To assist the Data Protection Officer and other colleagues in assessing the risks of sharing data with third party suppliers, or allowing third parties to process data on our behalf; supporting with due diligence checks, maintaining records of processing activity and the completion of data protection impact assessments when required, seeking support and guidance from the Data Protection Officer as needed.
  • To provide administrative support to the Data Protection Officer and other colleagues, preparing documents and materials for review and approval.
  • To support the Trust’s Data Protection Ambassador network by taking notes of meetings and contributing to the sharing of good practice across the Trust.
  • To provide support to the Data Protection Officer in order to deliver training, communicate key messages to colleagues and to support and promote a safe culture across the Trust, ensuring that data protection has a high profile.
  • To support the Data Protection Officer on key projects which seek to embed data protection compliance across the Trust.
  • To contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes.

  • A basic understanding of data protection legislation is highly desirable
  • Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to interpret and communicate information based on agreed policy and procedure.
  • Organisational skills to work under pressure to complete tasks to deadlines, re-prioritise own workload where necessary.
  • Willing and able to travel to various sites across the Trust as needed.
  • Experience of using computer packages for word processing, spreadsheets, e-mails and researching information.
  • Previous experience of using a google based workspace and Adobe Pro is highly desirable.
  • Experience of undertaking a wide range of office based administration and clerical tasks.
  • Experience of team working to work effectively with others and meet deadline and goals
  • Experience of following instructions, procedures and policies.
  • Experience of establishing strong relationships across a range of stakeholders is desirable.

  • 5 x GCSE (A–C) or Level 9 -4 passes (or equivalent) which must include English and maths.
  • 3 x A Levels passes (A – C) excluding General Studies (or equivalent)

  • Data Protection and Information Governance Practitioner (Level 4) Standard

  • Being able to use your initiative and work independently to meet deadlines and be able to manage conflicting deadlines.
  • Confident, professional, open and honest approach.
  • Flexible, adaptable and willing to meet the needs of the Trust.
  • A demonstrable belief in the values and principles of the co-operative movement and the ways of being Co-op.


  • Upon completion of the apprenticeship there is opportunity for a permanent position for the right candidate.

Working Pattern Monday to Friday from 9:00am till 5:00pm.
