Vacancy: Trainee Furniture Draughtsperson
Location: Office based role in North Norfolk, near Fakenham

We are seeking an ambitious candidate who is passionate about Furniture Design or Product Design for a new trainee role within the Design Department.

The Role

The role of Draughtsperson entails transforming Interior Designers and Architects’ conceptual sketches & drawings into detailed technical working drawings to make from.

In the role you will learn about furniture design and construction and learn to use various computer aided drawing software to create detailed fabrication drawings. You will work alongside experienced team members in the office and workshop. You will gain experience in designing for our in house cabinet makers as well as other designing for metalworkers, upholsterers etc.

Examples of typical tasks include:

· Producing models and drawings using drawing software

· Ensuring drawings are produced in line with company design and construction standards

· Undertaking research on materials, fixings and hardware

· Interpreting interior design & architectural drawings

· Quantifying materials

· Discussing materials and designs with suppliers

· Checking details and information on drawings

· Assisting in the drawing office

· Prototyping & modelling

· Designing components & updating the design library

· Assisting with site surveys

Formal Training will be provided alongside on the job training. This will include:

· CAD training including Solidworks & Draftsight

· SWOOD Software training


Benefits:

£21,000 per annum
Inclusion in the company profit share scheme (Trainees are on a sliding scale in terms of their award)

Employment Details:

Full time, permanent role
Hours: 8am – 4.30pm
Holiday: 28 days annually, including UK bank holidays

The ideal candidate will have the following skillset and level of experience:

· A relevant pass qualification in art & design or design technology at A Level, or equivalent college course

· At least 6 months of work experience (doesn’t need to be design related)

· Basic experience in using design software would be advantageous

· The ability to present ideas and hand sketch

· A portfolio or examples of design work, whether that was done at college or in spare time

· Maths and English GCSE pass grade 4

· A valid driving license with own transport – there is no public transport to the workshop

· Very good IT skills

Whilst on the job training is provided, a demonstratable passion for design or furniture and a practical ability to understand technical concepts will be required to apply for this role.

As well as some basic experience, the ideal candidate would have the following attributes:

· A positive and resourceful self-starter

· Be a creative thinker

· Be confident talking and discussing ideas with others

· Have an eye for detail and accuracy

· Demonstrates a positive work ethic and can-do attitude
