Description
A Building Services Engineering Technician will be planning and installing electrical and mechanical systems within buildings. This may involve controlling the quality of works on a construction project, supervising specialist contractors, assisting the design teams with building services engineering solutions and more
You will:
Help develop project costing in conjunction with the estimator.
Ensure compliance with contractual condition on a project
Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects, assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for building services projects, Identify areas for improvement and suggest innovative solutions, plan and manage resources effectively and develop project programmes.
1. ]Assisting in Design Tasks: Support senior engineers in the design of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for buildings, including HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), lighting, power distribution, and plumbing systems.
2. Surveying and Data Collection: Assist in conducting surveys of existing buildings to gather data on MEP systems and infrastructure. This may involve using measuring equipment and recording relevant information.
3. CAD Drafting: Learn to use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create and modify technical drawings and schematics for MEP systems under the guidance of experienced engineers.
4. Material and Equipment Procurement: Assist in researching and selecting appropriate materials and equipment for MEP installations, including obtaining quotes, preparing purchase orders, and coordinating deliveries.
5. Installation Supervision: Shadow experienced engineers during the installation of MEP systems to learn proper techniques and procedures. Assist with on-site inspections and quality control checks to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
6. Testing and Commissioning: Assist in testing and commissioning MEP systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and meeting performance requirements. This may involve conducting tests, recording data, and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
7. Documentation and Reporting: Assist in maintaining accurate project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports. Learn to document installation progress, test results, and any deviations from the planned design.
8. Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures at all times, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe working practices.
9. Client Communication: Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders as directed by senior engineers. Learn to effectively communicate technical information and provide updates on project progress.
10. Environmental Sustainability: Gain an understanding of sustainable building practices and assist in implementing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions in MEP designs and installations.
