At Matthew Marsden Furniture we have a fantastic reputation of being one of the North’s leading designers and manufacturers of high class whole house furniture, including kitchens, utility rooms, boot room, bedrooms, media walls and much more.Our workshop has all the latest CNC technology as well as up to date techniques.We are looking for an Apprentice Bench Joiner who can join our team to assist with the following: - General housekeeping. - Use a range of machinery to make components. - Assemble high end furniture using a range of different materials and techniques. - Assist with wrapping, packaging and delivery of furniture.
- Reporting to the Workshop Manager, and working alongside the team of experienced and highly skilled Furniture Makers, and wider team such as Designers and Technical Draughts people. - Learn the techniques and methods of making components and how to assemble furniture. Learning jointing methods, gluing-up, lamination, veneer and wood selection, material selection. - Learn about prototyping, jigs and templates, incorporating work by others such as glass, metal, stone. - Learn to read and interpret technical drawings to make furniture: tables, chairs, cabinets, for homes and Superyachts. - Learning to work with accuracy and precision, whilst understanding high quality expectations need to be met. - Will be taught how to use a variety of hand and power tools, as well as larger woodworking machines. - Admin duties like ordering materials, glues, screws for the workshop. Stock keeping of materials used.
-The general working day will start loading the vehicle with the products and tools needed for the day ahead, before traveling to site with your team. -On site, you will work closely with your team throughout the installation to learn the process. -There are many basic tasks that you will be able to take on from day one and you will progress quickly. -There will also be days spent working in the workshop where the assembly and construction of our products will be learned in depth.
- Carry out regular machine checks at the start of each shift and report any problems to the Team Leader - Operate machinery in accordance with safety procedures - Check product requirements and materials and set up machinery - Ensure machine running correct;y and undertake quality checks, correcting any problems if practicable, advising the Team Leader - Carry out regular cleaning of machinery - Calculate measurements for offsets - Responsible for handling products and tools carefully - Ensuring work area is clean, tidy and safe - Must meet expected speeds of production
We are looking for 16 to 24 year olds to support our Midlands Development Programme by joining our Youth Advisory Panel. Help us to shape our museum into an engaging and relevant space for young people by inputting into our Midlands Development Programme, from the planning stages, to delivery and beyond.
Reporting to, and working alongside the experienced CNC operator. - Learning and using Alphacam, CNC software to program the machine and schedule work to be efficient, at capacity, accurate, minimizing waste. - Interpreting construction drawings to breakdown into CNC components for CNC cutting. - Learning and understanding different tooling for use on the CNC machine. - Maintaining and cleaning tooling, CNC machines and working machinery. - Checking components are produced with accuracy. Checking quality levels are maintained. - Ordering materials, glues, screws for the CNC and generally in the workshop. Stock keeping of materials used.
- Measuring and marking out - Use of various machinery, tools and equipment to manufacture various products or components - Manufacture of components - Cutting timber using machinery - Sanding down and quality checking - Working towards Health & Safety Regulations. - Keeping the work areas clean and tidy.
As an apprentice, the successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a team and support senior members of the department.The majority of the Apprentice Machinists day will be occupied by learning all aspects of machinery.Main duties and responsibilities will include: - To use our AlphaCam program to convert a 2D drawing to a 3D drawing and adding the required tooling and toolpaths using multiple tools such as a straight flat cutter to apply the relevant profile cutter needed - To do carving profiles for ionic capitals and architectural corbels using small router cutters, like a 45 degree tool, 16mm radius and a 3mm radius for finer detailing which can produce amazingly detailed finishes - Setting cutter depths - Running programs - Safe use of hand tools and machinery within the workshop environment
