Apprentice Maintenance Engineer

Description

· To become an active member & the next generation of the engineering team.

· To ensure all machinery meets the necessary Health & Safety requirements.

· To maintain all machinery, enabling it to be capable of producing to maximum efficiency.

· To complete both electrical and mechanical reactive and pro-active maintenance.

· To attend breakdowns and provide engineering support to other departments throughout the factory.

· To action any necessary repairs and ensure all measures taken are recorded so recurrent faults can be recognised.

· To actively seek equipment upgrades and improvements to improve machine safety and efficiency.

· To assist outside contractors working on site.

· To respond to alarms and emergency situations.

· To co-ordinate with your team leader on engineering activities relating to the operations of the factory.

· To use the engineering CMMS system (E-Maint) to log all work and stores requests.


You will report directly to the Engineering Manager via the engineering Team Leaders.

An advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering is a level 3 qualification which is equivalent to A levels, so you will need to have as a minimum four GCSE’s to include maths(higher), English language & Science all at grade C (level 4) or above.

Knowledge:

  • Understand mathematical techniques, formula and calculations in a mechatronics maintenance environment and the type of equipment being maintained.
  • Understand mechanical, electrical, electronic, fluid power and process control principles in a mechatronics maintenance environment.
  • Understand how equipment being maintained functions and operating parameters in individual components and how they interact.
  • Understand fault diagnostic methods, techniques and equipment used when maintaining equipment and systems.
  • Understand condition monitoring methods and equipment used and understand how the information gained.
  • Supports the planning of maintenance activities.
  • Understand how to minimise machinery downtime by implementing planned preventative maintenance programmes.

Skills:

  • Read and interpret relevant data and documentation used to maintain components, equipment and systems
  • Carry out condition monitoring of plant and equipment.
  • Carry out planned maintenance activities on plant and equipment.
  • Carrying out complex fault diagnosis and repair activities on high technology engineered systems such as:

:-Maintaining mechanical equipment

:-Maintaining fluid & pneumatic power equipment

:-Maintaining electrical & electronic equipment

:-Maintaining process control equipment

Carrying out confirmation testing and subsequent smooth hand over of equipment & plant support the installation, testing and commissioning of equipment (where applicable). Contribute to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processes and/or procedures.

Reality Check:
