Job Description

We've written this advert with one thing in mind - to inspire more females to roll up their sleeves and try their hand at fitting smart meters.

We won't rest until we've got all our customers to net zero by 2050 - and we know that some of them feel more comfortable with a female working in their home.

That's where you come in. Not your typical engineer? Good. We're not your typical energy company and this isn't your typical job.

*** Please note applications for this role are open to everyone ***

Ensuring the future of our planet is kind of a big deal. That's why working here is #MoreThanACareer. Our work is so much more than just a job - it's a mission. We're not just part of the energy transition, we're leading it. We are proud to be Centrica - a family of 21,000 energisers working across 8 uniquely brilliant brands. Together, we're united by our purpose of energising a greener, fairer future.

No one does energy like us. We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.

Your mission is to help us mend it.

You'll be working for British Gas. We've been heating Britain's homes for over 200 years, but we're just getting started. We light up communities, create smart, energy-efficient homes and put smiles on the faces of over 10 million customers.

SMART meters are the in-house tech that unlock the magic to a greener future. Sending data in real time, they show our customers exactly how much energy they're using in pounds and pence - helping them to see where they can make savings.

As an apprentice, you'll grasp the skills not just to install and repair them - but to make sure our customers are getting the best out of them too.

Skills you need to succeed:

  • 4 GCSEs, ideally including Maths & English, at grade C/4 or above or a recognised equivalent

  • A genuine passion for learning a trade, striving for a successful career & providing awesome customer service

  • A full UK driving licence with 6 points or less

  • Availability to attend training at one of our four UK academies - with accommodation and travel provided if needed.

Here's what's in it for you:

  • Starting salary of £15,435 rising to £23,877 at week 52 of your apprenticeship, there will be further increases to your salary during this time which will be confirmed later in our process.

  • Once you have completed the full programme and aftercare support your salary will increase to £37,104 with bonus and add ons on top.

  • We also offer London Weighting Allowance ranging from £4000 to £6000 (dependant on location) for living or starting your day within London.

As an Energiser, you get a bumper reward package bursting with benefits including huge discounts on your energy bills and our British Gas & Hive products. Plus, you can choose from loads of extras to add in if you wish. Our rewards are designed to give you the choice of benefits that support both you and your loved ones, making sure that you're covered no matter what life throws your way.

Oh, and if that wasn't enough, each year we give every colleague a chunk of free Centrica shares, as part of our group-wide profit share scheme.

Click apply and find out more about why we're a great place to work...

If you're full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.
