This apprenticeship is a great introduction to the leisure industry, providing help and support to the Pelican Centre's members and the staff team.

In this role you will be required to supervise the pool, ensuring the safety of its users whilst assisting the Duty Manager with the day to day running of the Centre. You will be organised, self-motivated and keen to start a career in fitness and leisure.

In this role you will be required to:

- To ensure the safe preparation and control of all facilities, e.g. changing rooms, swimming pools, and the erection of sports and other ancillary equipment.

- Safety and control of customers in accordance with the 'Code of Conduct' and other relevant guidelines, policies and procedures as provided, to prevent injury, misuse and damage to facilities in wet and dry areas.

- To undertake general cleaning duties in accordance with the Centre's cleaning schedule and ensure that the standards of cleanliness are achieved and maintained.

- To positively promote the image of the organisation and provide a welcoming and friendly environment for customers.

- To work at all time in a manner that will ensure their own personal safety and that of others, ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety standards, i.e COSHH, Risk Assessments and reporting of identified hazards.

- To give assistance to customers seeking advice and information.

- To support the Pelican centre Learn to Swim Programme and the various activities undertaken by the Pelican Centre

You will be enrolled on a Leisure Team Member apprenticeship programme which takes approximately 18months to complete as well as completing the following qualifications throughout the length of your apprenticeship:

- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)

- Level 1 Swim assistant

- Level 2 Teaching Swimming

- Level 2 Gym Instructor

At The Pelican Centre, you will be working towards the Leisure Team Member Level 2 Apprenticeship over the course of 15 months.

Be a competent swimmer & be able to successfully complete a swim test consisting of: - Swimming 50m in less than 60 seconds - Swimming 100m on your front and then back continuously. - Tread water for 30 seconds - Surface dive to the floor of the pool to pick something off the floor of the pool. - Jump or dive into deep water - Climb out of the unaided without steps where design permits
