Our lifeboats have to launch in the stormiest of seas, the strongest of gales and the harshest of winters. Whatever conditions our brave volunteers face out on a shout, our lifeboats must be to be able to cope with them too. So to make sure we can always rely on them, our lifeboats are built, repaired and maintained to the highest standards.
Description
About us:
Our All-weather lifeboat centre in Poole brings every stage of the lifeboat building process in-house and under one roof, ensuring that we are fully equipped to build the next generation of all-weather lifeboats. It gives us greater control of costs and quality, and it creates employment, including apprenticeships in marine engineering and boatbuilding.
How we will be involved with National Manufacturing Day:
Come along for an in-depth look at the All-weather Lifeboat Centre, see where the state of the art jet propulsion Shannon lifeboats start as composites and move through their build stages, eventually being launched into the Poole harbour for extensive sea trials. You will also be given insight into how existing all-weather lifeboats are maintained. This is a tour like no other, lead by our manufacturing leadership team, with the opportunity to get close to the building bays and meet some of the incredible team that build these boats.
