About AWE
AWE’s support for the government’s strategy takes many facets: from supporting the weapon programme for the nuclear deterrent, supporting the UK’s counter terrorist programme, identifying where there may be nuclear tests taking place around the world, and building an expert group of individuals in order to give the UK real depth in nuclear science and technology.
Start an extraordinary career at AWE; grow your skills, learn from industry experts and become part of a community at one of the most unique companies in the UK.
About the Role
AWE has numerous electrical maintenance roles available, covering a wide range of responsibilities such as power distribution systems installation, electrical testing and inspection, maintenance of both high and low voltage systems, and work on lightning protection systems.
During the first 18 months at AWE, candidates will train in the Skills Academy and attend day release at college. This period provides a foundation in electrical theory, cabling, and wiring infrastructure. Following this, candidates will individually complete around 40 small projects, where they will be involved in designing, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems.
After 18 months, candidates will join qualified tradespeople on-site and receive on-the-job training as electrical engineers. This typically includes six separate three-month placements, aimed at broadening their electrical knowledge and exposing them to the full range of AWE’s plant and facilities. These placements may include facility engineering, electrical utilities, design compliance, and work on lightning protection systems.
