Description

As a Trainee Tax Advisor, you will receive internal and external training to develop your expertise as you work towards achieving the ATT qualification over a two-year training period. Initially you will support the Tax, VAT, and Payroll advice lines in an administrative capacity, taking on technical responsibilities as you progress through your training, with the goal of providing informed tax advice across a range of areas.

  • Supporting the advice line by handling triage calls where our advisors are unavailable or busy.
  • Providing administrative support to the advice lines.
  • Building rapport with clients and colleagues whilst improving call handling skills.
  • Attending various tuition courses from our external provider as well as having productive self-study sessions to expand your own understanding of the ATT content.
  • Taking responsibility for progressing through the ATT, including completing either the Corporation Tax or Inheritance Tax optional paper.
  • As you build your expertise, handling tax advice calls and emails with the guidance of senior colleagues.

Professional Accounting Taxation Technician Level 4 - ATT


A key role within any accountancy and finance function, individuals undertaking this will hone their ability to create, verify and review accurate and timely financial information. This can suit a variety of financial functions as there are a range of qualifications available to suit your organisation.


The ATT qualification gives you the knowledge and practical skills to work in tax compliance. After qualifying, you can progress onto CTA and become a chartered tax advisor.


The ATT syllabus follows a modular structure, which consists of two core certificate papers and four optional certificate papers, allowing you to specialise in your own area of interest or expertise. You must also complete three computer-based exams (Law, Professional Responsibilities & Ethics and Accounting).


Compulsory units include:

  • Personal Taxation (PT)

  • Business Taxation (BT)

Optional units include:

  • Business Compliance (BC)

  • Corporate Taxation (CT)

  • Inheritance Tax, Trusts & Estates (IHTTE)

  • Value Added Tax (VAT)

You will also be required to complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which will include a role simulation exam and portfolio with reflective statement.

Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons or Live Online. This has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate time to off the job training, as well as completing knowledge, skills and behaviours.
