Core
responsibilities:
To assist in the
provision of proactive and customer focused legal advice within the areas of
Local Government work whilst undertaking an apprenticeship with BPP to become a
qualified solicitor. Training will include the following areas:
· Prosecutions
relating to matters such as benefit fraud, environmental offences and taxi
licensing. This will include advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court
· The drafting and
preparation of pleadings in bringing and defending claims brought by or against
the council. This will include advice and attendance at client meetings and
advocacy
· Advice and
assistance with the interpretation of legislation and contracts relating to
disputes and enquiries from clients
· The conduct of
any litigation (civil and criminal) in the Magistrates’ and County Court
· Advising on and
attendance at planning committee, licensing committee and licensing
sub-committee to gain experience in acting as legal advisor to elected members
· Advising on the
processing of requests from members of the public under the Data Protection Act
2018 and Freedom of Information Act 2000
· Supporting the
legal team’s processing of property disposals under the Right to Buy Scheme
· Advising on and
drafting contractual documentation in relation to public sector procurement and
planning matters
· Advice on local
government law generally
· Actively
participating in marketing and networking activities for the promotion of the
legal team’s trading brand and growth of our client base
· Undertaking any
other reasonable tasks for successful completion of the apprenticeship
