Opportunity Details

At Lloyds Banking Group, risk isn’t about hiding until the danger passes—it’s about spotting opportunities, protecting customers and the business, and staying one step ahead. The Risk teams safeguard over 28 million customers, identifying and mitigating threats from global market instability to economic crime, customer lending to regulatory change.

On the Risk Graduate Scheme, graduates become part of the team that ensures the Group always plays it smart.

Over two years, graduates complete three eight-month placements across different risk specialisms, gaining a broad, well-rounded foundation for a long-term career in risk. It’s a guided tour of some of the most fascinating and fast-moving areas in the field, including:

  • Credit & Customer – analysing credit risk, understanding customer behaviour, and shaping lending decisions
  • Analytics, Data & Modelling – using cutting-edge techniques, data science and AI to predict and manage risk
  • Specialist Risk – diving deep into market, operational or insurance risk to solve challenges most people never even see

Graduates also have the opportunity to pursue industry-recognised qualifications aligned to their interests and career goals, such as:

  • Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
  • Global Credit Certificate
  • Chartered Banker Diploma
  • ICA Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance

This isn’t about staring at spreadsheets. Graduates get hands-on with robotics, cognitive computing, and AI to automate, analyse and outsmart emerging threats. They use advanced forecasting tools to stress-test decisions, apply regulatory frameworks like PRA and FCA compliance, and contribute to projects in sustainability, climate risk, and GenAI—shaping the future as well as protecting it.

The scheme is ideal for naturally curious minds who see patterns others miss, enjoy solving problems from every angle, and constantly ask “what if?” Graduates are given the space to explore how new technologies can transform risk management and the freedom to experiment with them.

They sharpen analytical skills while building the communication and relationship-building strengths needed to influence and collaborate across the business. With mentoring, technical training, and business skills development, they learn to connect analysis to action in a culture where curiosity is encouraged and problem-solving is part of the job description.

By the end of the programme, graduates will be the kind of professionals who can walk into any room, explain the risk, influence the outcome, and lead the way forward—equipped with skills that are in demand across banking, fintech, consulting, and beyond.
