Opportunity Details

At Lloyds Banking Group, they don’t just keep the lights on in financial services — they’re busy rewiring the whole system. With over 23 million digitally active customers, Lloyds is the UK’s biggest digital bank. But they’re nowhere near done.

That’s why the Group is investing up to £3bn each year in game-changing tech like cloud platforms, AI, and next-gen engineering — and they’re inviting apprentices to be part of it.

As Technology Engineering Apprentices, individuals won’t be making tea or watching from the sidelines. They’ll be coding, testing, and building the digital tools that millions of people and businesses rely on every single day.

Four years. Big projects. Endless possibilities

This four-year programme is a launchpad into Software Engineering. Apprentices split their time between Edinburgh Napier University and Lloyds Banking Group — learning the theory in class and putting it straight to work on real-world projects.

Modules include:

Year 1 – Software design, maths for engineering, human-computer interaction, data science with Python, computer systems
Year 2 – Databases, object-oriented development, algorithms & data structures, web tech
Year 3 – Advanced web tech, engineering methods, applied projects
Year 4 – Software architecture, cyber security, and a big-impact honours project

By the end, apprentices graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Software Development and four years of exceptional hands-on experience.

The impact they could make:

  • Build and test real digital products that customers use every day
  • Help push the limits of AI, data and cloud
  • Solve puzzles in cyber security, payments and mobile apps
  • Learn how to deliver tech the right way: safe, ethical, inclusive

Their skills toolkit:

They’ll master:

  • Python, Java and other languages of the trade
  • Database wizardry
  • Web tech and modern engineering practices
  • Cloud platforms and security know-how
  • Agile teamwork (plus the occasional hackathon buzz)
