Opportunity Details
This apprenticeship will involve joining the internal audit team at AWE for a period of 6–12 months. The internal audit role focuses on delivering internal audits and third-line assurance to the AWE CEO and Audit Committee. Internal audits are conducted following an audit methodology and using an audit management system developed by the Government Internal Audit Agency, which aligns with Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS).
The team is based on the Aldermaston site and operates through a mix of office-based, onsite, and home working.
The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors supports a number of apprenticeship levels relevant to this role.

Qualifications Required
- 5 GCSE Grade 4/C or above including Maths and English
- 2 A levels Grade C or above or equivalent Level 3 qualifications. If you do not have the required Level 3 qualifications but have relevant work experience of at least two years’ please contact earlycareers@awe.co.uk to discuss
- Applicants must be aged 18 or over, as of 31st August 2026 due to security clearance requirements
- You must be a British National to apply for a role with AWE
Other Information
Please note: annual leave cannot be taken between 1st September and 2nd October 2026 due to mandatory inductions that form part of the apprenticeship programme. Any leave after this period will be subject to training provider requirements and must be approved in advance.
These roles are governed by Health and Safety at Work Regulations and require all candidates to have an Occupational Health pre-employment medical held at AWE which follows the initial selection process. All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
