In the final year, the focus will be on sustainability: the dynamic thermal performance of buildings, energy resources, combined heat and power, wind power generation, and lighting and electrical systems.
You’ll take part in a variety of design projects that simulate a working environment, using computer modelling techniques to optimise and refine your design proposals, as well as conducting laboratory and workshop experiments.
This role may appeal to you if you enjoy:
- Understanding how things work and improving them
- Solving problems in different ways
- Working with Control Systems (coding Raspberry Pi/Arduino, hacking consumer electronics, small audio electronic projects, etc.)
- Working with Mechanical Assemblies (car/bike/clock maintenance, restoration, and modification, etc.)
- Working with Electrical Systems (home electrical maintenance, changing sockets/light fittings, vehicle electrical systems)
- Learning and improving practical applications
- Applying engineering principles to real-life scenarios
The Benefits:
- A starting starting salary of £23,500 yearly, increasing to £25,000 in Year 2 and annually throughout your apprenticeship — subject to meeting key milestones and performance expectations
- Market leading contributory pension scheme
- Generous holiday entitlement of 270 hours a year (inclusive of Bank Holidays) plus every other Friday off
- Access to employee discounts portal - everyday savings on retail, hospitality and leisure
- Employee Assistance Programme and Occupational Health Services
Alongside these benefits you will get the opportunity to learn from some of the top leaders in their field whilst helping AWE to continue to deliver national nuclear security, threat reduction and counter-terrorism solutions.
