Opportunity Details
During the first half of the apprenticeship at AWE, you will train in AWE’s Skills Academy, as well as attend day release at college. This is where you will learn all about electrical theory, cabling, and wiring infrastructure. You will then go on to individually produce around 40 projects, where you will be involved in designing, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems. You will be taught how to test your circuit, identify common faults, and learn how to rectify them. You will also be taught how to safely isolate circuits and carry out theory for cable calculations, power, and related areas.
In the second half of the apprenticeship, you will join qualified tradespeople onsite, where you will receive on-the-job training as an electrical engineer. Typically, this will involve six separate three-month placements, which will broaden your electrical knowledge and expose you to the full spectrum of AWE’s plant and facilities. These placements can include facility engineering, electrical utilities, design compliance, and lightning protection systems.
This role may appeal to you if:
You have an interest in understanding how electrical assemblies work, as well as high and low voltage systems; enjoy inspection and fault-finding activities; like being hands-on; and are keen to apply engineering principles to real-life scenarios — then AWE would love to hear from you!
The Benefits:
- A starting salary of £16750 yearly, increasing to £23,500 in Year 2 and annually throughout your apprenticeship — subject to meeting key milestones and performance expectations
- Market leading contributory pension scheme
- Generous holiday entitlement of 270 hours a year (inclusive of Bank Holidays) plus every other Friday off
- Access to employee discounts portal - everyday savings on retail, hospitality and leisure
- Employee Assistance Programme and Occupational Health Services
Alongside these benefits you will get the opportunity to learn from some of the top leaders in their field whilst helping AWE to continue to deliver national nuclear security, threat reduction and counter-terrorism solutions.
