Opportunity Details
Placements may span multiple transport modes and involve collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including customers, local government, suppliers, consultants, and contractors. Participants will contribute to the reliable operation of one of the world’s leading transport networks and help shape London’s future.
Example Placements Include:
- Elephant & Castle Redevelopment – supporting the Construction Engineering team on-site, interfacing with the redevelopment of the shopping centre and the design and construction of a new LU station entrance
- Infrastructure Protection – collaborating with external developers, designers, and contractors to ensure their works do not damage TfL assets or disrupt operations
- Places For London – providing engineering support for TfL’s commercial property portfolio, including constraints plans and feasibility studies
- Asset Engineering – working with technical discipline teams to assess and manage track, drainage, geotechnical, tunnel, and structural assets. Involvement includes repair and replacement options, design and construction assurance, and structural assessments

Qualifications Required
- Penultimate year of an ICE-accredited BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering or a closely related subject
- On track to achieve a minimum 2:1
- Academic qualification must meet CEng registration requirements with the Institution of Civil Engineers
- Right to work in the UK for the full duration of the scheme
- Medical clearance (may include drugs/alcohol screening, eye and hearing tests)
- Not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship
Training
- On-the-job experience across two placements

Prospects
Participants may be considered for graduate roles through TfL’s fast-track process. The placement supports progress toward Chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers, with an expectation of completing 15% of required experience.

Application Process:
The process consists of five steps, including online assessments that must be completed within a specified timeframe
Applicants should upload qualification certificates if available. If final exams are pending or certificates need replacing, these must be provided later
Applicants will receive guidance at each stage of the assessment process
Online assessments must be completed within one week and cannot be re-issued after the deadline
Assessment centres for graduate and intern roles will take place from December to January. Most roles have only one assessment day, and alternative dates cannot be guaranteed. Centres may be held in person or virtually, depending on the role
