The participant collaborates on projects to improve the customer experience, such as enhancing bus interiors and developing accessible facilities, and conducts customer satisfaction research.
Placement 3: Zero Emission Fleet Team
The participant contributes to the roll-out of zero-emission buses by supporting project planning and logistics and works with the engineering team to evaluate the environmental impact and performance of new vehicles.
Placement 4: Operational Placement
The participant gains hands-on experience by working alongside network traffic controllers to help manage live incidents and support real-time diversions, assists bus station controllers and garage teams in daily operations, and supports operational teams in maintaining bus station efficiency.
Placement 5: Victoria Coach Station House

Placement 6: Dial-a-Ride

The programme seeks candidates who are adaptable, open to new ideas, and willing to innovate. Experience or interest in public transport, customer service, safety, sustainability, or engineering may be beneficial.
Qualifications Required

Applicants must be working towards a degree in any discipline, or have completed a degree within the last year with a minimum grade of 2:2. The internship is also open to students pursuing a master’s degree or those who have completed their master’s within the past year. Training

Award-winning teams support ongoing development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experience and placements. Professional development is supported through training, mentoring, and networking. One-to-one guidance is provided throughout the programme from a placement manager (responsible for day-to-day management and support), a scheme sponsor (a senior manager who acts as a technical and professional adviser), a buddy (usually an apprentice or graduate who provides support and ensures the participant feels welcomed), and a development adviser (who supports professional development through career coaching).

TfL’s core values are extremely important, and candidates are desired who are:

- Adaptable to diverse needs and willing to innovate
Prospects

At the end of the placement, the participant will be well-positioned to pursue further opportunities within the bus and coach industry.
Other Information

The application process consists of five steps, including online assessments that must be completed within an allocated time frame. It is highly recommended that applicants read the document thoroughly to familiarise themselves with the process. If qualification certificates are already held, copies should be uploaded to the application. If final exams are due to be sat or certificates need to be replaced, these must be provided at a later stage. Information and guidance will be provided around each assessment stage as the application progresses. Applicants should pay close attention to emails and deadlines, noting there is one week to complete online assessments, and these tests cannot be re-issued once the deadline passes. Assessment centres for graduates and intern roles will take place from December to January; many roles only have one assessment day and alternative dates cannot be guaranteed. Assessment centres are conducted in person and virtually (role dependent).
