Opportunity Details

  • Job DescriptionConstruction Development Programme (CDP) - Trainee Associate Quantity Surveyor

Are you ready to pivot your career into the dynamic world of construction? Our CDP Trainee Associate Quantity Surveyor role is designed for individuals looking to reskill and transition into Quantity Surveying.

Important: This is not a graduate or apprenticeship scheme. If you're looking for those opportunities, please visit the National Grid Careers Website to explore our dedicated programmes.

    Why Join This Programme?

This 18-month paid development programme offers:

    • A fast-track route into Quantity Surveying within a major infrastructure organisation.
    • Hands-on experience across real construction projects.
    • A fully funded degree conversion programme.
    • Industry-recognised qualifications including NEC4 ECC and NEBOSH.
    • A supportive, inclusive environment focused on your growth and success.

By the end of the programme, you'll be equipped with the skills, experience, and confidence to thrive as an Associate Quantity Surveyor - with a strong foundation for a long-term career in construction. You'll be welcomed into a positive, inclusive organisation that aims to become one of the most diverse and equitable companies of the 21st century.

    What You'll Be Doing

As a Trainee Associate Quantity Surveyor, you'll work across our project portfolio, supporting key commercial and contractual activities such as:

    • Validating actual costs and supporting cost assurance.
    • Reviewing Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events.
    • Assisting with tender activities and invoice reconciliation.
    • Supporting risk management workshops and post-project reviews.
    • Engaging with stakeholders and contractors to ensure value and compliance.

This role involves regular travel to site locations, so a full UK driving licence is essential. You'll be provided with a company car for both business and personal use (subject to BIK tax; no cash alternative available).

    Who We're Looking For

We welcome applicants from any degree background that is not Quantity Surveying (minimum 2:2). You'll be studying an MSc in Quantity Surveying as a degree conversion therefore your degree cannot already be quantity surveying. You need at least one year of professional experience demonstrating:

    • Commercial awareness and cost management principles.
    • Contractual Awareness.
    • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Expect to cover over 10,000 miles annually across our regions in England and Wales (North or Central Regions). You'll be onsite for up to five days a week, which may include overnight stays in pre-booked accommodation. In addition to your site travels, you'll attend on the job training at our training centre in Eakring, Newark and classroom sessions at university weekly. This means you'll have overnight stays away from home during the training period as well as the role itself.

    • Central (commutable to Nottingham) - Castle Donington, Warwick, Nottingham.

Please note: You can only apply for one CDP scheme and your application may be withdrawn if multiple applications are made.
