Orthoptists work with a team of specialists to diagnose and treat eye problems.
As well as a student loan, you may be able to access elements of the NHS Learning Support Fund, which can cover hardship, travel and childcare costs. You'll usually need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English, maths and science and 3 A-Levels, or equivalent, including at least 1 science.

With experience, you could become a specialist orthoptist, working with people affected by stroke, or with children. You could become a head or consultant orthoptist, and manage a team or department. You could also take further qualifications and move into research or teaching, or work in private practice and set up your own clinic.
Practice nurses work in GP surgeries to assess, screen, treat and educate patients, and help doctors give medical care.
General practitioners (GPs) are doctors who provide medical services to people in their local community.
Ambulance care assistants take patients to and from hospital for appointments.
Hypnotherapists use hypnosis to help people make positive changes to their health, lifestyle and behaviour.
Surgeons carry out operations and medical procedures on patients.
Health trainers promote healthy living and help people make healthier lifestyle choices.
