The main centre of population is West Bridgford, where around 41,000 of the Borough 111,000 population live. The remainder of the borough is largely rural, with the centres of population split between small towns and villages.

Detailed Job Description

To support the delivery of effective financial services through the provision of basic administrative support whilst successfully undertaking a range of personal and professional development activities centred around the requirements laid down for the Finance Apprentice role.

  • To provide basic administrative support as required by Financial Services in the achievement of agreed targets,objectives and timetables
  • To assist the Finance Technicians with posting cash and sales invoices to the sales ledger.
  • To deal with internal/external customers on the telephone and via email and taking payments by card over the phone.
  • To print and scan invoices from suppliers.
  • To update and set up supplier details on the creditors system.
  • To prepare and upload journals.
  • To assist in managing Finance emails.
  • To reconcile statements and request copy invoices where necessary and resolve any queries e.g. disputed invoices, in a timely manner
  • To assist in sending out monthly statements and reminder letters.
  • To keep up to date with relevant information, and be aware of changes
  • to policies and procedure. To work as part of a team to ensure relevant information is communicated appropriately.
  • To attend training, completing the required course-work and passing the relevant assessments leading to the successful attainment of the portfolio-based element of the Apprenticeship.
  • To work in, and gain experience of, other service areas within the Council.
  • To carry out any other relevant duties as determined by Managers, Business Partners and/or Finance Technicians.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

5 GCSEs including Maths andEnglish (Grade A*-C) or a relevantLevel 2 qualificationWilling to undertake AAT Level 3Diploma in Accounting

Skills required

  • Experience of dealing with customers
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • Ability to assimilate knowledge required in a range of areas.
  • Good computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Office Packages,(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Not guaranteed but apprentices are encouraged to apply for suitable positions in the Council as they become available.

Training provided

This opportunity offers training leading to an AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and we are looking for applicants who are highly committed to learn and complete their related College work and associated exams, have good organisational skills, and pay attention to detail.

The successful candidate will provide basic administrative support as required by Financial Services in the achievement of agreed targets, objectives and established time frames. An important part of the role will be to develop your experience in a range of Finance functions to include debtors and creditors systems, insurance administration and payroll whilst undertaking a programme of personal and professional development activity.

Apprentice Rates

16-18 years - Annual salary £8681.79

19-24 years - Annual salary £10,804.00

25 plus - - Annual salary £10,804.00
