Our partnership

NCS and GetMyFirstJob are now working in partnership, this is going to help young people, like yourselves, gain the right social and professional skills.

This partnership will provide NCS graduates the access to apprenticeship opportunities through GetMyFirstJob, also, on GetMyFirstJob the number of NCS graduates who get into apprenticeship roles will be tracked – so the benefits of NCS can be quantified.

This is going to bring massive benefits for both. For NCS, they will be able to see the direct benefits that NCS is having on young people that they work with, and GetMyFirstJob will be known by more young people therefore help more people take the first steps in their dream career.

What is NCS?

National Citizen Service (NCS) is an experience you really don't want to miss. If you're 15 to 17 years-old, this is your chance to embark on exhilarating challenges, make your mark and build skills for work and life.

Let's face it – life's too short to be stuck indoors. So why not kick-start your future with a summer you'll never forget! Thanks to government backing, the most you'll ever pay for this unbeatable experience is £50, but this cost could be less or even free depending on your circumstances and local NCS provider.

What Is The National Citizen Service?

Phase 1: Adventure

On phase one, it's time to challenge yourself!

Living with your team at an outdoor activity centre, you'll get to know some amazing people and enjoy some quality time away from home.

The best part? You'll find yourself in a group of 12-15 incredible people you've never met before – people who will change your life and whose lives you'll change.

In your team, you'll get the chance to take on some adrenaline-fuelled challenges like rock climbing, canoeing, hiking and archery. Even if you're the biggest scaredy-cat, you'll be a rock climbin', zip wirin', canoe-conquerin' machine in no time!

"I loved NCS - going away in the summer, getting to meet new friends. Being able to speak in front of people was very daunting to me at a young age, NCS has developed that skill of confidence."

Jermain Jackman, NCS graduate and winner of The Voice 2014

Phase 2: Skills

Now's your chance to discover something new!

You'll be reunited with your group in a uni-style environment where you’ll develop life skills like confidence, leadership and communication to boost your CV or UCAS personal statement.

You could find yourself meeting organisations and important people from your local community.

Even better – you might discover something new about yourself. Maybe you've got a hidden (or not so hidden) passion for photography, editing, football coaching or even how to set up your own business!

National Citizen Service

"NCS changed my life, from the second I got on the bus. It gave me the opportunity to recognise who I really was. I no longer doubt myself or what I am capable of. I’m no longer overwhelmed by isolation, but by the massive amounts of support that I’ve received."

Keely, NCS Graduate

Phases 3 + 4: Social Action

It's time to make your mark! This is where your NCS experience all comes together. All the fun and inspiration from the first two phases means you're ready to step up and deliver your very own social action project. Plan; fund-raise; make a difference!

You and your team have the power to change the world around you. Whether you're a thinker or a doer, this is your chance to make a difference, have some amazing stories to tell, and be part of something you'll never forget!

It's time to celebrate in style. We think it's only right that you and your team should enjoy a well-earned reward for doing something truly inspirational in your community.

At the end of your NCS experience, you're now part of the bigger NCS family. This is only just the beginning! You'll get exclusive access to potential volunteering opportunities and apprenticeships as well as amazing discounts and big events! Once an NCSer, always an NCSer.

Why say Yes to NCS?

  • You learn the skills employers value
  • Learn to budget and live for yourself
  • Meet incredible people
  • Get your voice heard!

Where does it happen?

NCS takes place in your local community outside of term time, so no matter what your commitments are or what your summer holiday plans might be, just register and we'll get you on the next available NCS spot.

NCS is really proud to work with some amazing organisations across the UK.

NCS is delivered by a series of charities, college consortia and Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise (VCSE) and private sector partnerships across England.

All NCS staff are DBS checked (previously CRB) and are trained to work with young people.

The programme is risk assessed and regularly quality assured.

Once you've secured your spot, your local NCS provider will contact you to discuss things further and to answer any other questions you have about NCS or the programme.

Already done NCS?

You can now show that you have on your GetMyFirstJob profile! There is now a simple tick box that you can mark if you have done the programme, which is highlighted to employers.

Making you stand out from the crowd!

At GetMyFirstJob we’re different.

We don’t just provide apprenticeships – we care about young peoples’ futures and do everything possible to connect them with opportunities that will transform their lives. Providing choice, easy access to skills learning and that all-important break into their first job.
