We are the largest security operation in the UK, with a mission to defend the British government from a full range of security threats whilst protecting 67 million citizens. We provide vital public services, by understanding and managing security risks to all government departments.

The Government Security Profession is made up of over 11,500 security professionals working in over 40 different departments and agencies across government. No matter which department or agency you’re based in, each plays an important role in protecting public services.

Working in Government Security has huge scope. The government holds great quantities of sensitive data, money and personal information, enabling it to provide services relied on by millions of citizens and thousands of businesses across the UK. This includes citizens’ NHS data, military research or payment of unemployment benefits.

We face a range of challenges: organised crime, hacktivists, terrorists, foreign intelligence services and rogue individuals. These attacks attempt to cause economic damage, erode public trust in online services and do real harm to our citizens, their property and their privacy. Cyber attacks are now a daily reality and our teams work hard to protect our systems to repel them.

  1. Government Security Cyber Apprenticeship (level 4)
  2. Government Security Cyber Degree Apprenticeship (level 6)

Starting an apprenticeship scheme in the Government Security Profession could give you exposure to any of the following areas; Cyber Security Risk Manager, Security Architect, Monitoring or responding to cyber incidents, Vulnerability Manager, Digital Forensics, Secure design or Pentesting.
