As an Engineering Apprentice you will be a vital part of Amazon. You will be supported by leading experts and you’ll earn while you learn. You’ll be paid a very competitive salary even when you are studying at college or university. We will pay all of your course costs as well as paying for your accommodation while you are studying away from home.

YOUR PATHWAY TO SUCCESS

Our apprenticeship schemes are aimed at people who have a passion for learning. You will need to be ambitious, relish a challenge and be prepared to seize the opportunities given to you. Hard work is essential, as is a determination to succeed and make the most of the hands on experience & qualifications on offer to you. Join us and you will get the best training available, you will learn a broad range of engineering skills at a fully equipped training centre, followed by a structured period of on the job training and assessment.


THE ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

You’ll need 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at C Grade or Grade 4 – 9 or above, which must include Mathematics, English and a Science or Technology subject. Alternatively you will have, or be studying towards, a BTEC level 3 engineering qualification of 120 credits or more.


THE CONTROLS SPECIALIST APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

You’ll need 2 A levels (or equivalent) at C or above in either Mathematics, IT, Physics, an Engineering related subject, or have completed a BTEC level 3 engineering qualification of 180 credits which must include further mathematics, or have an Engineering HNC/D qualification.

The Recruitment Process

Our recruitment process is designed to allow you to impress us with your desire, skills and personality, so make sure that you are prepared.

1. Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for people who are resilient, responsible and eager to learn. You will need to demonstrate strong problem solving skills and a passion for engineering.

2. Online Application

You will be able to make your application at www.amazon.jobs from the end of February to the end of May each year. Please check our website for specific details. Here we will ask you to tell us about yourself and your background and academic qualifications.

4. Assessment Centre

If you meet the standards on the psychometric tests you may be invited to an assessment event at one of our fulfillment centres local to you. You will be assessed along with other candidates on the day so make sure that you stand out. You take part in a number of activities and an interview, so think about what we might ask you and the answers that you could give us.

You will hear the outcome soon after attending the assessment event.

5. Online Psychometric Tests

Impress us with your application and you will be invited to take a series of reasoning tests. Logical reasoning, mathematic ability, communication skills and mechanical comprehension will all play a part. Don’t worry, you will be given plenty a number of days to do them and guidance to help you prepare.


Apprentice FAQ’s

Q. Am I classed as a student?

A. From our perspective you are a full-time employee and will be treated as such. However your college will have information about the additional benefits associated with being a student.


Q. What do I do during college closure times?

A. You will generally have the option to either take holidays or undertake a work placement at a Fulfilment Centre


Q. Can I choose a different college to attend?

A. Unfortunately not, we have our learning providers in place and you will need to attend the college that your apprenticeship is aligned to.


Q. Will I have to pay for accommodation while studying away from home?

A. No, all accommodation costs will be paid for by the company along with any other reasonable expenses that you incur in undertaking your studies.


Q. Is there a guaranteed job at the end of the apprenticeship?

A. While there are no guarantees of permanent employment, it is anticipated that on successful completion of the apprenticeship you will take up a position at one of our Fulfillment Centres


Q. Is it possible to progress from the mechatronics to the controls apprenticeship?

A. Whilst it is not envisaged that you would be able to complete the whole of the Controls route on completion of the mechatronics apprenticeship, it would be possible for you to undertake elements of the controls course if you show that you have the aptitude and that there is a business need for you to do so.
