Our Story

We’re different from other jobs boards – we're a social enterprise. That means that we don’t think its money that makes the world go around – we think it’s you. You’re what makes our clocks tick and we want you to be happy. We aim to find out what makes you get up in the morning to find you the perfect match. Our mission is to help employers' access and employ the talent of tomorrow by using innovative technology to inform young people about their option and create effective and efficient routes into training and development.

Essentially, GetMyFirstJob and The Talent People were established to help companies access the talent they need, when they need it just as much as they were to help candidates find the job they need, when they need it. We use a wide range of technologies to help you become better informed about the opportunities that are open to you so that when you start work, which you no-doubt will, it is based on an informed decision having considered all of your options. We pride ourselves on being non-judgemental, whether you want to study, do an apprenticeship or work full time we just want what's right for you.

As a result, we help to break down the barriers that exist; from challenging the ethnicity and gender stereotyping of industries to sharing the many new opportunities available through apprenticeships. Through this work, employers large and small can access better, more informed candidates who become the talent of the future. We are proud of our extensive and inclusive approach to recruiting young talent and encourage all of our partners to take the same approach.

GetMyFirstJob and The Talent People started life as a series of projects with national training providers to help them improve the way in which they delivered the recruitment of young people. Our work exposed both the lack of understanding of apprenticeships and other options open to young people, as well as the lack of an effective system to manage the attraction and recruitment process. As a result, we developed GetMyFirstJob – a site for candidates to explore the options open to them, as well as a jobs board where they could apply for roles. This was a jobs board with a difference though. Powered by the Talent Portal, candidates who couldn’t find the role for them could also be accessed by recruiters nationwide for other opportunities. Within a couple of years, over 100,000 young people had registered, and the site now has over 420,000 profiled candidates and over 1.5 million visitors a year. The company’s Recruitment and Application Tracking System has been used by over 200 companies and 1,200 recruiters to place tens of thousands of candidates into work.
