Description

Purpose of the job:

  • To gain training and experience in order to work as a keyworker and as part of the pre-school team to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children under the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Main duties to aim for during the course of training and work experience:

  • To help to set up the playroom for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.
  • To advise the pre-school leader of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • To assist with the planning of the curriculum.
  • To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation to meet their next steps.
  • To attend staff meetings.
  • To act as a keyworker to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met including termly development assessment.
  • To attend courses, in-service training and other meetings as required to attain a min 24 hours per year CPD.
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is acquired as part of the job.
  • To act under Wesley Preschool code of conduct.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Playgroup leader, in accordance with the playgroups business objectives.

Essential:

  • Previous experience in employment or a role with responsibilities.

Desirable:

  • Commitment to professional development within the childcare profession.
  • Record keeping and development tracking of a small cohort of children.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and a professional manner at all times.
  • Recent experience working in a pre school setting under the EYFS.

Essential:

  • GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above.

Desirable:

  • Computer literate.
  • Pediatric First Aid.
  • Recent CRB check.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Childcare.

This is a nationally recognised qualification that provides a broad and thorough training programme for all Early Years and Childcare professionals and covers four themes:

· Theme 1: Health and Wellbeing – Supporting healthy lifestyles through exercise and food and nutrition, promoting children’s emotional well-being and understanding how to support children who are unwell.

· Theme 2: Legislation, framework and professional practice – Understanding Safeguarding, health and safety, equality and inclusion and Working in partnership.

· Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness – Understand the value of play, support children’s transition to school, develop children’s emergent literacy and mathematical skills and use longitudinal studies to observe, assess and plan for children’s needs.

· Theme 4: Professional Development – Engage in professional development Sessions are reviewed regularly and updated to meet the requirements of employers and learners in line with sector Changes and the focus of legislation and good practice requirements.

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Guidelines.

  • Recent working knowledge of EYFS (2012) Good understanding of assessment and planning under EYFS for the Unique Child.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection Issues.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, possibility of a full time job role.
Hours may vary from 30-35.
