Detailed Job Description

The role will include supporting young adults offering safe and stimulating adult courses that include supported work placements, volunteering, community engagement, living skills and leisure opportunities.

Duties include:

  • Spend time with each member of your pastoral group during a variety of activities both in and outside of the building.
  • Build positive relationships with each member of your pastoral group.
  • Act in an approachable manner with all young people.
  • Be a point of contact for young people.
  • Ensure you read all personal care plans and keep up to date with any changes.
  • Provide personal care needs following care plans and all policies and procedures.
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all young people by encouraging them to interact with each other and to engage in activities.
  • Provide support during break and dinner times.
  • Ensure there are a range of games/activities during break and dinner times.
  • Working with direction from the keyworker to create accessible resources.Support the effective use of ICT in activities and develop young people’s competence and independence in its use Support with a range of ICT equipment i.e. interactive screen, I-pad, computer etc.
  • To work as a member of the team and on own initiative and contribute to the development of the service.
  • Provide a range of support 2:1, 1:1, small group work and whole group work.
  • Take responsibility for tasks within your pastoral group i.e. gastro, diaries etc.
  • Ensure that medication is administered and recorded as instructed and in accordance with the service guidelines.
  • Administer medication following policies and procedures.
  • On arrival sign medication in following policies and procedures and lock in the medication cupboard, inform keyworker that medication has been received and signed in.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed and assist young people in their use.
  • Maintain the learning environment during sessions.
  • Accompany young people on visits, trips, and activities in and around the community as required.
  • Provide support to a range of young people 1:1, group work etc out in the community.
  • Sign medication out following policies and procedures and take responsibility for medication for the young person you are supporting.
  • Ensure you have read the EV/risk assessment for the visit/trip you are support on.
  • Ensure you act as a good role model, in a professional, approachable, fair and understanding manner.
  • To understand the importance of inclusion, equality and diversity, both when working with children and with colleagues, and to promote equal opportunities for all.
  • To uphold and promote the values and the ethos of the school.
  • To implement and uphold the policies, procedures and codes of practice of the School, including relating to customer care, finance, data protection, ICT, health & safety, anti-bullying and safeguarding/child protection.
  • To take a pro-active approach to health and safety, working with others in the school to minimise and mitigate potential hazards and risks, and actively contribute to the security of the school, e.g. challenging a stranger on the premises.
  • To participate and engage with workplace learning and development opportunities, subject to the school’s training plan, working to continually improve own performance and that of the team/school.
  • To attend and participate in relevant meetings as appropriate
  • .To undertake any other additional duties commensurate with the grade of the post.

**PLEASE NOTE** applicants must fulfil certain criteria in order to be eligible for apprenticeship training. New Bridge School are working in partnership with Aspire Education Academy who will deliver the formal training as a legal requirement of the apprenticeship.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

No qualifications required but experience in support work with young adults would be beneficial.

Skills required

Some experience in a young adult support setting would be beneficial but not essential. As a minimum candidate’s should be passionate about young adult support and education and new experiences working in a young adult’s environment would be a huge benefit. Candidates who are confident, outgoing, good communicator and good interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to form good working relationships.

New Bridge School are looking for candidates that are serious about a career in young adult support and education and are willing to support successful apprentices on their career journey within this sector.

Additional Information

Training provided

Candidates will be required to undertake 1 paid education day per month at school. Candidates will also have 3 more contacts per month with their tutor through a variety of mediums including – observations, webinars, phone calls, review meetings and distance learning.

  • Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning.
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
