We are looking to recruit an Apprentice to work with our Upholstery Team. The role is very hands on including woodwork, pattern making, measuring and cutting, machining, finishing and working with a variety of fabrics.

We are primarily an upholsterer and sofa/chair manufacturer. We specialise in hand-sprung furniture for the luxury domestic and yacht market.

We also take on a lot of work locally, recovering and manufacturing furniture for retail customers.

Detailed Job Description

We are now looking to recruit an Apprentice to work with our Upholstery Team in Blandford Working with the owner, you will become a multi-skilled member within our team.

The Apprenticeship itself will take four years to complete, qualifying you to advanced level; you will be required to attend Brockenhurst College training facility one day per week during term time.

Currently this is Hengistbury Head Outdoor Activity Centre

As an apprentice upholsterer, you should hold an interest in design.

The role is very hands on and you will learn skills such as :

Pattern making and marking

Measuring / Cutting

Machining Working with different materials – wood / leather / fabric Finishing - lacquering and spraying Modern & traditional upholstery

You will also see a project from start to the finished product.

Throughout your training you will receive regular pay reviews in accordance to performance. This means you have the potential to gain regular salary increases.

The college course will allow you to achieve an Upholstery Apprenticeship. It covers the background to what we do and provides you with all the skills required to work in the team.

This will back up all the practical experience you will gain in your day-to-day job.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

GCSE grades a – C or equivalent in English, Maths

Skills required

Attention to detail, reliable, creative, punctual and with a strong willingness to learn.

Must be a team player and be able to build strong working relationships.

Understand the role is learning a trade / craft and is labour intensive, often requiring heavy lifting and requiring long periods of standing at a bench.

Personal Qualities

Friendly and can-do attitude with a strong work ethic

Future prospects

Progression to the Advanced Apprenticeship followed by full time role afterwards for suitable candidate.

Additional Information

Training provided

An Intermediate level 2 Apprenticeship will be offered with:

Level 2 City & Guilds Technical Certificate

NVQ Diploma in Upholstery

Offered day release at Brockenhurst College starting in March 2018 from the Hengitsbury Head

This will progress onto the Level 3 Advanced.
