Northshore Shipyard has been established since 1971. From our delightful setting in Chichester Harbour, this ideal location is perfect for keeping your yacht all year round. The harbour is an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers a superb base to visit some of the prettiest places along the South Coast, with easy access to the Solent, Isle of Wight and English Channel.

Our work is carried out by qualified engineers to ensure your electrical and mechanical components are kept in top condition. With our expert knowledge within the industry, replacement parts can be sourced and ordered quickly. Our skilled craftsmen can repair damages to hull and deck, interior joinery, metalwork and engineering problems.

The company is now looking to develop a new workforce and looking for apprentices to carry on the high standard of repair work that is carried out at the boatyard , they have requested that the possible candidates be placed on the new Apprenticeship standard course , and will receive the best possible training for a career in the marine industry.

Detailed Job Description

We are looking for an outstanding apprentice to join the team and complete our marine engineering apprenticeship. As an apprentice you will be working along side our experienced staff undertaking various tasks such as:

  • inboard and outboard engine servicing,
  • re-wiring yachts
  • fitting engines
  • general repairs
  • new engine installations,
  • engine reconditioning.

The working week is Monday - Saturday.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

A*-C GCSE Grades are preferred but your level of math and english will be tested at Paragon Skills Assessment Sessions.

Our Industry leading Personal Tutor will deliver outstanding teaching and learning to help ENERGISE you to complete your apprenticeship training and leave you confident to EXECUTE tasks to the highest standard.

During this apprenticeship you will complete:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Marine Engineering
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths & English

You will attend our Fareham Marine centre for block release for one week every 2 months. All other training will take place at Northshore Ltd.

The current Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW) is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. PLEASE NOTE – candidates who meet the employer’s criteria will be put forward for interview as soon as possible, this means that the vacancy could be filled before the advertised closing date.
