Since 2013 have grown from a low point by 200% fee income through telemarketing and referrals and very much using strength of cloud accounting to streamline the practice procedures and client servicing. Using powerful software for proposals and engagement letters called GoProposal, gaining high value fees rather than time based.

Detailed Job Description

This is an exciting and flexible position, with the right candidate having the opportunity to work from home occasionally.

TO LEARN AND DEVELOP YOURSELF WELL in a small, proactive and systems driven accounting practice.



Responsibilities include:

 To learn cloud accounting software systems and develop strong servicing skill sets

 To operate cloud accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, ReceiptBank, Spotlight Reporting, TaxFiler and other systems used by the practice. Processing bookkeeping transactions and developing efficient systems processes manuals as you go.

 To Prepare and review VAT Returns, keeping diary of actions undertaken and new understandings

 To Undertake Accounts Preparations, gradually increasing skillset and recording new understandings

 To learn how to prepare corporation tax returns and personal tax returns using Taxfiler, recording actions and understandings as you go.

 Company Secretarial Software: To ensure all Companies kept up to date on system and logging all Confirmation Statements / production of required dividend documents etc. Ensuring all Company accounts filed at Companies House and HMRC in good time.

 To become Xero Certified and QuickBooks Online certified and to attend advance courses

To be involved in the Practice internal processes and systems:-

 MinuteDock, logging all 5 mins of time spent per client / activity and reviewing time efficiencies

 Xero Internal, looking after the practice’s own bookkeeping, VAT, Payroll, tax etc

 Cloud workflow system, Senta for logging tasks and full client onboarding database

 GoProposal: proposal and client engagement system. To learn processes and to use to ensure all existing clients have current engagement letter and are fully onboarded with all required details and HMRC logins

 Capsule CRM system use and population of onboarded clients

 Money Laundering system. To assist in ensuring practice is fully compliant and keeps money laundering documents up to date.

 Developing good understand in GDPR regulations and helping to ensure practice is maintaining compliance and properly documented

 Research other software add-ons for Xero and Quickbooks Online

 Attendance at Software events such as Accountex in May and Xero Conference

 To be fully informed and aware of healthy work environment and desk posture and seating

 To undertake to read Quinton’s “healthy living” manual covering healthy eating and nutrition and lifestyle and workouts. On doing so Quinton will subsidise any Gym membership and contribute towards an optional organic whole foods eating plan through Riverford. This all contributes greatly to focus and work ability – there is reasoning behind this!

 Reading business books / articles to supplement accounting and business knowledge

 Being involved in Quinton’s charitable ethos in supporting orphanages and water supply around the world, encouragement to partake through the Give As You Earn scheme.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

High results A levels OR Distinction in Business BTEC (I am a BTEC graduate!)

High grades through GCSEs,especially Maths and English

Skills required

Strong IT skills and general knowledge of cloud based software helpful

Strong maths / logic skills, proven by enjoyment of Maths

Good communication and people skills

Able to make mistakes and then learn and develop from them positively

Personal Qualities

Intelligent proven by academic results

Confident and capable proven by outside academic involvements and interests

Able to use initiative and proactive in thought

Keen to achieve in an accountancy practice environment and to see business and opportunities grow

Future prospects

For the keen, intelligent, productive individual who has strong desire to achieve, there is significant prospect in this small firm to grow as the business develops. The right individual who wishes to grow with the business will soon develop into client manager, senior accountant, practice manager and with great potential of later becoming a partner /joint Director in the business. For the diligent hardworking individual, the prospects are wide open to pursue!

Accountant in Business;

Management Accounting and Financial Accounting, all whilst displaying relevant skills and behaviours in the workplace.

Foundations in Accountancy is a suite of accountancy awards from ACCA for those wanting to start a career in accounting and finance.

Currently on easy to park residential street just off J11 M25. Individual expected to park carefully with consideration for Neighbour access and pedestrian rights of way.
